Anyone with Signs & Symptoms of Low Thyroid, but Has "Normal" Blood Tests?
I am needing a physician that will treat symptoms of low thyroid & not just rely on the "blood tests". I have had a history of having hypothyroid, but when drs order the blood tests, I am always within normal limits.... on the low side of normal. Has anyone else have had these problems but have had a dr who is not afraid to prescribe thyroid medication? Also my mother has been treated with thyroid medication for 60+yrs, she is now 83.

Dr. Gonino in Rowlett. I have been treated by him for this exact condition, as has a friend of mine.
It is SUCH a relief!

You might try some natural thyroid assistance from Ssprouts or Whole Foods. Those might be just enough to help you out, rather than the synthetic meds. HTH

Hi C.,
I too have had the same problem with blood work. As some others have mentioned, you need that complete panel done for them to really see what is going on. My blood work will look fine, but I will feel horrible, with the full panel, it is usually my T4 uptake that is the problem. I did not have this diagnosed (the T4 problem) until I went to North Texas Family Medical, they are nurse practitioners that specialize in women's hormones. My initial visit to their practice was not for my thyroid, but they have been extremely helpful with the issue. They DO take insurance! :) The only downside to them for me is they are in Pilot Point...but they are worth the drive for how much better I feel! I started seeing them in August 2006, then stopped going to them the next summer when I got pregnant with my daughter because I "thought" my OB/GYN could watch it (BTW, I love my OB/GYN), boy was I wrong!! She took me off my medicine (cytomil) that was for my T4 uptake and increased my synthroid to 125mcg. I started back to North Texas Family in January, I am back on the cytomil and my synthroid dosage is down to 75mcg. My point being, not having the full panel screen does not give a clear picture of what is going on. Here's their website: http://www.northtexasfamilymedicinelt.com/
Best of luck to you!!

Hi,
I had hyperthyroidism in 2001 and I was treated by Dr Howard Baum at Medical City Dallas. He is very nice, personable, and even remembered what I did for work when I went for my 1 year checkup!

I also have had the same problem. The only doctor I've found who looks beyond the numbers is Dr. Spurlock at the Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Center in Dallas. He is wonderful. The only downside is that they do not take any insurance, but you can try filing with insurance yourself afterwards.

Hi C.,
I've had similar experiences myself. For years blood tests wouldn't pick anything up, I was always in normal range. I had all the symptoms listed for low thyroid. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs worked to help relieve the symptoms and get me back on track.

I went to the doctor many years ago (maybe 15) complaining of being tired all the time. She tested my blood and said I was borderline and that she could be criticized for giving me synthroid, but since both my mother and sister were on it she felt it was worth a try. It helped greatly. She started me on a very low dose and over the years I have had to increase it a bit. I tried lowering it this past year and blood tests showed there was no longer any question with my bloodwork, AND I became extremely tired. So, of course I went back up to my regular dose. It was obvious my doctor had made a good decision for me. Try asking your Gyn if he/she would be willing to prescribe you a low dose.
