Anyone Used Breathable Bumper Pads?

My 3 and 1/2 month old moves around in her crib a lot. She kicks the crib and her feet and hands are outside the crib slats a lot! I also wonder if this wakes her up. A friend recommended breathable bumper pads, but I am wondering if they are really safe. Has anyone tried these?

What can I do next?

We have a 17 month old and have used the breathable bumper for her since she was tiny. We didn't want to use the thick ones due to SIDS and she too was sticking her feet through the slots on her crib. This bumper works great and I feel much more at peace knowing she won't block her breathing if she leans her face into it. Target has the cutest ones (if you order on-line) since you can get ones that have a nice border and not just plain white.

I used them for the very reason you are considering. They were great, however, once my son got a bit older he did not need anything in the crib any longer. Meaning they were a very short-term thing for the money we spent. You say so what, $20-$30 bucks?? I agree, but if you are like us, you were tempted to buy every baby gadget (and did buy most). It just adds up. Good idea though. Maybe try second hand...

We used them for the same reasons you mentioned and we LOVED them!! I took them out when he was around a year old because I was afraid he would pull them off and would be a hazard to have left loose in the bed. I think they are a wonderful thing to buy. At least they give you peace of mind.

We use the breathable bumper pads (although at this point, my 13 month old probably doesn't really need them anymore). We bought our crib from Ikea, and the head board and the foot board is solid wood, so the bumper pads don't fit quite right anyway.

To be honest, I don't know how effective they are. But, in a way, it did bring "peace of mind" that he won't get his hands and feet stuck in between the bars, and it did allow him to breathe better in case he ends up with his face against the side.

We ordered our bumper pads through the One Step Ahead web site, www.onestepahead.com.

I have them and I love them! It's not that safe to have the regular bumper pads in there because once your baby can start moving around, they can roll their little faces into the side and then suffocate. And when they get to the age of pulling up, your baby will try to stand up on the regular bumper pads which could cause your baby to fall out! When I had to get rid of the bumper pads for my first child, I was constantly having to go in there to save his little arms and legs from being stuck in the crib slats, and of course his binkies would always fall out of through the slats too. So I decided to try out the breathable ones, and they are great! No more stuck legs or missing binkies. And I never had to worry about him suffocating or climbing on top of it. I ordered mine from www.onestepahead.com. Let us know if you try it out!

We used them for one of my twin girls and it was a GOD SEND! She was getting her arms and legs stuck in the crib slats and once we used it, she had a "barrier" and stopped trying--we used it for three months and that was it! I have it now if you'd like to buy it used. Let me know! Good luck! ~E.

I have a 25 month old and we've used the breathable bumpers from Target since her birth. She can't stand on them to try to climb out of the bed as they are too flimsy. We have no plans to remove them until she's in a regular bed. They're great for keeping pacifiers in the crib too!!

I used a breathable bumper pad from Toys 'R Us that was a white mesh. I didn't put a regular bumper in after reading consumer reports and other reports from pediatricians. It worked pretty well. He got his hand under it once and it got stuck, but I could tell the difference in his cry and he was in no real danger. We used it until about 11 months when his was very intentional in his movements and he starting trying to stand on it.

Hope this helps!
