I am almost 3 weeks PP and looking for a new method of bc. Having 2 kids makes it kinda hard to remember to take a pill everyday at the same time so DH and I were talking about maybe using an IUD. I have heard mixed reviews on Mirena. I've heard its the best thing ever and i've heard that it has caused a lot of bleeding, cramping, headaches, mood swings, you get the idea. What was/is your experience with it and would you use Mirena again?
How are your periods? And how long do they last? Thanks for getting this far..
Anything else you'd like to share I'd appreciate it :o)

hey there, I got mirena a few months after the birth of my second, so almost a year ago. It produced some cramping during the insertion but nothing much major there. I had breakthrough bleeding where I wore a thin pad all the time for 4-6 weeks. I've been breastfeeding since then so I haven't gotten any periods. It's really great not to worry about it. I didn't like the idea of having it in for 10 years like paraguard and it's got a slightly lower rate of pregnancy (about .01%). Generally I recommend it, just make sure you've got insurance because I think it's like 3-4K without it. I paid about 300 and some. good luck!

I think it is the best.... I also have 2 amazing kids (2 and 3 year old- My son will turn 4 next week) and I had it placed about six weeks after the birth of my daughter. It is great not having to think of birth control when you have enough on your plate.

When it was placed there was some cramping and had bleeding for almost 2 weeks later, but not heavy whatsoever... it has been over 2 years since it was placed and it has actually lessend my periods. I don't remember when I last had my period, but I remember when I was "late" I took a home pregnancy test (which freaked out DH) but it was negative, I guess the missed periods are normal. I think it has been over 3 months since I think I got my last actual period. I spot every now and then, but it goes just as quickly as it came and it is not a problem.

Good luck and enjoy your 2 little ones, cause before you know it they won't be little anymore...

I have had my mirena for nearly 2 years and love it! My periods are super light (they usually last 1 to 2 days). I have heard mixed reviews on it as well so weight the pros and cons. The only "bad" part was the intial installation of the IUD. It only felt like a pinch when it was put in however over the next 3 days I had pretty bad cramps and some spotting. I give it 5 out of 5 stars! :)

I have had an IUD for the past 7 years (and am in the LOVE IT contingent)...but it's not the Mirena... it's the Paraguard. Good Ole Coppertop

No hormones, lasts for up to 10 years -but you can take it out whenever-, first couple periods are gnarly...but then they go back to normal. For me that's a 4 day period, with cramps once or twice a year...same as before.
