Hi,

Yes, I used both... I liked the Gdiapers a lot. I tended to use the disposable (flushable) ones for when we were out and about or I knew she was probably going to poop. Other wise, I just got some towels from the thrift store and cut them up and used those - either washing them if pee or just throwing them out if poop. That way, all the poop rinsing I had to do was on the liner and (occassionally) on the diaper cover a little bit (only if I didn't catch it quick enough and she sat in it...) I used the more expensive biodegradable, non-chemical disposable diapers, so the cost of the Gs was not any more than that. I don't know how they compare to the normal diapers, but if you use the towels, they are pretty cheap.

Good luck!

You will probably like modern cloth much better if you are planning to breastfeed. The runny poop is much better contained in Cloth vs G-diapers or disposables.

Try to attend a cloth diaper class in your area or visit a local cloth diaper shop. They are really starting to appear all over IL so you should be able to find something within a fairly reasonable driving distance. People who cloth diaper usually love to tell others about how modern they have become and how easy they are to use.

I use cloth diapers and i love it! I have a 8 week old and have used them since we ran out of the diapers from the hospital. I use a combination of BumGenius all in ones and then pre-folds with Thirstie covers. My husband and I really enjoy the fact that we are saving so much money and that it is better on the environment. We end up doing diaper laundry every 2 or 3 days, which isnt that bad. I would highly recommend cloth diapering, the internet is a great resource for information on how to take care of the diapers, and different options. Good Luck!

I don't know anything about how the Gdiapers work.

We use cloth and are very happy with it. (Used it for my son through age 15-months and are now using the same diapers for my 2-month old daughter). It means 2-3 extra loads of laundry per week, but otherwise is very low-impact. There are a lot of choices out there, which can be overwhelming. We use "fitted" diapers, which are probably the most cost-effective besides prefolds. (And they are shaped and have snaps, versus needing to be folded and pinned, so they're less intimidating to cloth diaper newbies). You do still need a waterproof cover for these, but you can get away with 3-4 covers and just let them dry between changes by swapping them out. Other styles, which are more expensive, include pocket diapers and all-in-ones (neither of these need a cover). We also used "one-size" diapers for a long time with my son - these are like fitteds *usually) and have snaps so that you can fit them on babies that range in size from 8-40 lbs - basically birth through potty-training.

I have several other posts on Mamasource where I describe what I personally use and I'm happy to give you the details if you're interested. With the cloth, you generally recoup your investment in 4-6 months, depending on how much you spend up front. Another bonus is that most cloth diapers have very good resale value, so you can sell yours online for around 50-80% of their orig. value (or better yet, buy some used - that's what I did) when you're done with them.

I suggest reading the reviews at www.diaperpin.com and consider purchasing 1-2 diapers of the couple styles you're considering to try out. Then you can get more of what you like best. Or you can just take the plunge and buy a stash of whatever someone you trust recommends. This is what I did and it worked out pretty well for us.

I hated G diapers. They were messy and the yucky stuff inside the liner always leaked. I would recommend trying cloth. I used wash cloths in a wipe warmer for wipes and my favorite diapers were pocket diapers. Good luck :)

We used them for a while. They clogged both of our toilets, and our son went through them like hotcakes. It seemed like I was changing his diaper every 10 minutes, compared with much less frequently with disposibles.

I really wanted to do something better for the environment, but it just wasn't worth it. We also had a lot of problems with leaks. It was a disaster. After a day of 2 clogged toilets, 5 blowouts and far too many diaper changes, I went out and bought more disposibles. It just wasn't worth the hassle and expense for us.

I don't know much about G-diapers, we found them to be to expensive for us, but we use cloth and LOVE it. I use Mother-ease, which are not very easy to get in the states (they were recommend by my SIL who lived in Great Britian for a few years. you can order them online from the mother-ease website, or we ended up getting most of ours on Ebay. I use One size diapers with covers for most days and I have a couple of All-in-one diapers for when we are out and about

Hi M. -
I am so thankfully that I used cloth on my daughter! I regret that I didn't know more 6 years ago when my son was born or he would have been in cloth too. When I started with cloth for my daughter, there were no local stores that sold them so, I blindly bought them off the internet. I tried TONS of diapers!

I realized early into my maternity leave that there was no way I'd be able to return to work because of my daughter's health so, I started my own cloth diapering business. If you would like to sit down and see all the diapers I carry in person, I'd be happy to meet with you. Here is my website: www.lovebugsco.com Blessings! A.
