Hi,
I have had asthma and allergies for the past 12 years or so. In the past year both have gotten much worse for whatever reason. I have been on steroids 3 times in the past year and been to the ER for breathing treatments. I do not want to continue this pattern and have consulted an Allergist. I went today for my allergy tests and found that I am allergic to just about every tree/pollen that exists as well as some household dust. I have taken the precautions to cover my mattress, pillow, etc as he advised. He has also suggested that I start Immunology for the allergies and that this should also help with my asthma since it is allergy triggered. My question is have any of you ever tried this and was it successful. I am looking for any info I can get b/c this is and expensive and time consuming treatment and I want to make sure it is worth it before starting.

Thanks so much for your help!

So What Happened?

Thanks to all!! I have completed my paper work and am going to give the shots a chance. I have noticed that covering my bed and pillows have made me sleep better at night for whatever reason. The animals are a very valid point and even though I love them they were a concern for me also. The allergist tested me for dog and cat both as a prick test and as an injection and I didn't show any reaction to either test so he said that means no allergies to either. Thanks again!!

Hi, Lynn - Yes, I have tried the shots. They worked great for me! I've also found some other things that are extremely helpful in dealing with asthma and allergies. Feel free to PM me for more info. Don't want to break any rules here....Thanks! Good luck. N.

My mom gets them and they work WONDERS for her. My daughter has horrible allergies, and got two sets before she suffered a seizure. The shots caused a fever that spiked, causing the seizure. A condition she had before the shots. However, we are not doing them anymore. But if you do not have any conditions that would make the shots more of a danger, they are definitely a good way to go! And you don't do them forever, only until your body builds a good tolerance. Good luck!

The allergy shots didn't work for me, becasue I was allergic to the shot. Go figure! Even at the lowest dosage. I hate to say this, but you might want to consider the animals. They are a huge inducer of the allergies. Pet hair and danger cause asthma attacks as well as the allergic reactions.

My Mom had the shots and it worked wonders for her. Every spring and fall was becoming more unbearable as she was allergic to all kinds of pollen and it kept making her sick and it was taking longer and longer to get better it each time it happened. She was getting very tired of being sick and tired all the time. It is time consuming but it beats repeat trips to the emergency room just so you can breathe.

I recieve allery injections once a week. Have been for the last year. I know they help me, because right before I get my next shot I start sneezing, stuffy nose, and itchy eyes. Like you I have allergies from tree pollen, grass and dust. I definetly suffer if I don't get me shot every week.
On the other hand my husband tried the shots and he didn't notice a difference.
I would suggest you try them. It will probably take a month or two to know for sure if they will help you. At least then you will know for sure.

I am the mother of 3 boys and my oldest son was born with servere allergies. At the age of 18 months he began allergy shots and after 2 1/2 years of treatments he is totally fine. He has had no symptoms of allergies since and he is now 17 years old. I say go for it and I wish you luck. By the way my son was also allergic to everything under the son.
