Anyone's Kids Have Rash from Huggies?

My middle child had a similar problem with Huggies! However, he would get a rash in his entire diaper area. We used Pampers instead. After a few weeks I got brave and tried the Target brand, and they were fine.
My middle child was the only one that had a reaction to Huggies. (I have 3) So, yes, it is strange!
Since your son's rash is only around the elastic, maybe it's because he's hot. We've been in such a heat wave lately.

My sister's youngest child cannot wear Huggies diapers at all. She gets a beat red rash. We've come to the conclusion that it is either the plastic with which they make the diapers or the mesh lining over the absorbant part. We also think that her urine is slightly acidic which causes the irritation as well. The only brand that Olivia can tolerate is Pampers. They cost more, but are the only brand that does not irritate her.

my son had a problem with Huggies when he was first born. so we switched to Pampers and stuck with them until recently. I just switched to Huggies cause their Size 5 compares with Pampers Size 7! he hasn't had a problem with them this time around

The diaper may be too tight around his thighs, especially if this has just started happening. Try switching to the next size diaper or switching to a cruising diaper which would have more forgiving leg holes.

Both my kids had this same thing, but it was all over! Their leg area, butt, front end, just everywhere where the diaper touched. We just changed diapers to either pampers or Parents Choice diapers and they dont have rashes near as much as they used to!

It could also just be from the summer heat and where the diaper is touching, getting irritated by being moist from sweat then rubbing against his legs.

Wow, what a blast from the past. My 13 year old got a rash from Huggies when she was a baby. I switched to Luvs and never had a problem. And they were cheaper!

Though it is somewhat the opposite for my son, he has the same problem. His issue was with generic brand diapers, switching to Huggies/Luvs helped the problem. So switching could work for you. You might try an all natural diaper from WholeFoods which helped my son as well. They are not much more expensive than Huggies. We also found "Triple Paste" to be invaluable in helping the rash heal and preventing it from coming back! His butt is rash free these days!

I am experiencing the exact same thing, crazy. I noticed just the other day and made a mental note to keep an eye on it. It makes sense that it may be due to the heat, my some sweats very easily. The back of his neck gets little bumps when he is hot too. Thanks for asking the question. Hope it's just the heat!

It almost sounds like they are too tight around his thighs. That with the heat may be causing the irritation. Maybe try loosening the diaper (or the next size) and some powder.

My youngest had huge problems with the few disposables I used after delivery until big enough to fit into cloth. Huggies were included in the list.

Plastic does not breath, the chemicals cause rashes.

You could always consider just switching to cloth rather than finding a 'feels like cloth' substitute. They are rather easy to use and very heathy for your child's skin.

I did a complete diaper review when my son was an infant. I bought every type of diaper that there is and I evalutated them for ability to hold lots of "stuff", their fit, their price and whether or not they were scented. My favorite diapers ended up being the Babies R Us Brand - Especially for Baby - the regular kind. They hold everything, they fit well and they are less expensive than most diapers.

Just a thought on the thigh rash...are you sure it isn't KP (Keratosis Pilaris, a harmless skin rash of red bumps)? Maybe it's being aggravated by heat/sweat?

Anyway, also just wanted to suggest trying ALDI's Nanny's Diapers (they seem to feel less plastic-y and more like soft cloth) as a cost-effective alternative. I loved them - and my son had no problems with them at all.
I would let him "air out" as much as possible until the rash clears up.

Are you sure it isnt from the heat we have been having lately??? Try putting some baby powder on his legs where the
diaper touches at every diaper change. This may help. It helps my daughter when she gets rasy in her diaper area. Might save you from trying expensive diapers.

I didn't like huggies for that reason and for the fact it left a sandy like residue on my daughters bottom everytime i changed her. I used pampers,yes they may be a little more of an exspense but she never got a rash, residue or never leaked thru them. I would consider switching. The rash also could be heat rash babies get it in the strangest places.

We have been using Pampers Cruisers for months with no problems. Your son may just be sensitive to the material in the hot summer weather.

My daughter used to get a rash on her low back where the diaper touched her skin. I switched to Seventh Generation diapers which are chlorine free. She has been great ever since. If you can't find them near your home you can go to www.diapers.com. Price Chopper also carries them.

My oldest is allergic to Huggies so we only use Pampers or Luvs, both are great (& Luvs are cheaper). I've tried a few store brnads with both boys and they seem to be allergic to those too.

If he's been using them for awhile, then it may not be allergies. It could be the heat, so keep an eye on it or try a new brand for awhile. Once it clears up you could try again and see what happens.

I have 4 kids. my youngest is 1/12. They all had rashes if I used anything besides pampers. Huggies seem ok but I have to watch. I just used a cheaper diaper and he had a real bad rash. I used a few things that just were not helping, but my doctor said to give him a bath with warm water and baking soda, I also used a medicated powder and switched back and forth each diaper change with powder then next diaper with aquaphor. its like vaseline but better. and it worked. I'm just sticking with pampers now.

My son seems to have a chemical sensitivity like me . . . he can't wear Pampers, Huggies or any brand with petroleum and other chemicals, or he gets a deep red rash by the 2nd wearing. We love Nature Babycare biodegradable disposables (when not using cloth), as he remains rash free. Seventh Generation were nice, but didn't hold everything in as well.

For treating the rash, California Baby's bum wash (aloe vera and witch hazel) was the only thing that treated without further agravating.

It is weird, my daughter wore pampers and huggies as a baby and I had no problems. Now, my son tried wearing both and he kept getting rashes. At first it was like you explained and then, because it was not getting better, it turned into a fungal rash. I switched to a brand called "mother to mother" a few months ago and his rash left and never came back. I found it at Genuardis and it is even less expensive then the other two!

One of my twins did that a lot during the summer time. She has sensitive skin and the heat made her sweat in areas around the diaper-she ended up with a rash. I would def. go to the doctor about it though if it doesn't go away. It might be something more. I just kept baby powder on her around those areas and that helped more. Hope this helps.

I didn't notice the rash around my son's diaper line at his waist until after reading your question! I have always used pampers with no trouble, but recently tried huggies to see if I liked the leg cut outs and absorbancy.... in my opinion, NOT worth the switch! He seems to have more poopy leaks than we ever had with pampers and i've never seen this rash before! We'll be going back to pampers as soon as the huggies run out. hope your little guy is doing better! =)
