Anyone Taking Generic Precription Prenatal Vitamins?
I am breastfeeding, so I still need to take a prenatal vitamin. I take Precare (and a separate DHA supplement), but the cost has gradually risen from about $18/month to $32/month for the Precare alone. I know this is not so much and still cheaper than formula, but I really would rather spend my money elsewhere. My mom is a nurse, and she insists that I need a prescription instead of the generic CVS brand vitamins I was taking early in my pregnancy. She says that this has to do with amounts of vitamins and their ability to be absorbed into the body--apparently prescription are better.
I have heard that there are generic prescription prenatal vitamins out there, but I do not know brands, costs, etc. Does anyone have any particular brand/brands that they would recommend?
Thank you!

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I ended up going with Ultra Natal Care, which only costs $10 for a month's supply.
Thanks again!

My doctor actually told me just to pick up a generic one from the drugstore. But, if you really want the brand name, Stuart has an over the counter prenatal. It costs a little more than the generics, but less than the prescription. You can usually find it at Walgreens - it's in a purple bottle. :-)

When I pregnant with my son and nursing I took the prenatal vitamins that I bought at Walmart, I don't remember the name but it was only about $6 or less for 200+ vitamins. I take the same ones now that I'm pregnant again. When I asked my doctor, he recommended taking generic/store bought vitamins instead of spending all the money on prescription vitamins.

During my first pregnancy, I took Sam's Club prenatals, and it had about 300-500 pills. Now I am starting to take OneSource from Walmart. My doctor never recommended a prescription prenatal, cause she said they all work the same.

I took the walgreens brand prenatal vitamins the whole time I was pregnant. I had a very healthy 8lb 12oz baby girl. I showed them to my doc and he said they were perfectly fine. they cost me 9.99 for I think a 3 month supply, and they never made me feel nauseous.

i took the generic prescription version of Natachew (that was the brand name). our copay was $9, the full price would have been $19.50 / month. they were the only thing that did not make me vomit.
