Anyone Know of a Good Birthing Class?

Hello,
I am 6 months pregnant and need to find a good birthing class to prepare my husband and I for labor, breastfeeding, etc. My midwife recommended one that teaches the Bradley method (natural birth), but they are a little pricey. I am just wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere else that had a website I can check out, or if I should just go with her recommendation.
Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Plano Presby is what I was going to suggest too. Follow this link and click on Classes at Presyterian Healthcare System Hospitals. A pop-up box will open where you can choose the hospital and see what classes they offer.

I took mine through Medical Center of Plano and highly recommend it. I think it was like $200 for all of the classes.

Ditto for Presby Plano. We took their natural childbirth plan. Ask if Jessie is the one teaching it. She was FABULOUS! It was so informative and it was great to learn techniques I never would have thought to try, and it really helped me through my labor. It took 17 hours, but it was natural, and I can't tell you how empowering that was!

I also took their breastfeeding class with my hubby, and I am so glad I made him go to it with me! He's now telling his buddies with pregnant wives to go to that class! He had no idea how much work breastfeeding takes, and he was a huge help once our daughter was born, as she didn't want to latch because I had a slow let down. And he kept her awake, too, as she would get drowsy after one side. There were so many little things he did for me, and it's all because of that class. They had a segment in it on ways the hubby can help, and he really took that to heart!

I honestly don't remember how much it cost to take both of them, but we both felt they were well worth it!

But I know that there are lots of good places to take classes, so look around!

Dear D.,

we went to a class that was highly recommended to us by friends and it was awesome. The instructor was great and it never got boring. Not only did we learn a lot, but Kay who is the owner of this business helped once our baby was born. I called her several times to get advice from her, since we didn't have family close. I don't know what I would have done without her. Once you meet her, you will know what I am talking about. I have also developed great friendships with other moms that were at the class. Here is the web site. www.thenestingplace.net
They offer all kinds of different classes.
We took child preparation class, CPR and breastfeeding
It usually was a all day event on weekends.
If you need more info let me know. Good luck !

Hi D.,
I took the Bradley classes and highly recommend it. I also read "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" and HIGHLY recommend that whether you take the class or not. Great info on what to expect and how dad can help. It really helped and had my first baby been able to come down (pushed over two hours)...I would have had an unmedicated birth. We had our own complications and having had the knowledge of what was suppose to happen, I feel confident in my decision to proceed with the c-section...I was not even told to by the doctor, I just felt something was not right, and it was good we did have one. I do feel this will empower you to be calm and to know what to expect and how to respond. It just depends on what you want out of your delivery...let me know if you need more info.

Congratulations on your pregnancy D.! My hubby and I went through a program at our local Baylor hospital. It was NOT expensive at all and was most helpful in preparing us for the birth of our son.

If you contact your local affiliated Baylor Hospital's Labor and Delivery department, they should be able to get you the number you need to learn about scheduled classes and etc.

Good luck to you and yours!

D.
