Anyone Know If Anything Is Going Around?

My 4 month old baby girl has been vomiting and has terrible diarrhea. She has no fever at all. We have been under terrible stress from being uprooted due to hurricane IKE. Just wondering if anyone has seen anything or heard of any illness going around. She is still drinking, and is in good spirits. She has an appt with the doc tomorrow. I know what to look for with dehydration, and have no problem taking her to the hospital. She has a rare metabolic disorder so pedialyte is out of the question....so no worries that if she gets really bad I will take her in. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the replies! I never thought I would get such a response. Well we all got it, and finally are slowly on the mend. It was rough! We took the baby to the doc and he said she was doing fine. Poor baby she was so sick. We are not totally normal but better! Thanks so much!

My 12 year old came home MOnday from school with a headache and then was up all night with diarrhea. She was not throwing up but she has not had much of an appetite. We live in the Sugar Land area....I thought maybe it was from all the mold and mildew in her school after the storm...there was pretty serious water damage at her school from my understanding. It sounds like everyone is a little puney right now!

Same here. Except we also seem to have a cold. My sons and I have had loose bowels and vomiting this past week and 1/2. Now it's me with a soar throat on top of it all. Feeling miserable.

We also left for IKE, and stayed in New Braunfels and my mother in law stayed in San Antonio. We stayed with my niece and her family (both school teachers) and while there her two children got the virus (?)but only lasted a day, they got it two days apart, then I got it then my husband got it. My mother in law in San Antonio friends they stayed with, the wife got it. Then my daughter and daughter in-law, then her toddler got it. Yes, it is going around, but usually only last 1 day.
Good luck.

Yes, something has been going around, at least here in the lower valley as most of the mommy's I talk with has mentioned similar problem. My own 3 year old had it for a week. Wish you all the luck and speedy recovery.

Yes there is about a 24hr stomach bug going around... 4 of us who evacuated together had it. It included diarrhea and vomiting, but no fever. In about 24 hrs we all started felling better, not quite normal but better.

Has she drank any of the water from the faucet? If so, that may be a problem. Be sure to boil your water because the news did mention that the water may be contaminated in certain areas still. Good luck to you.

My little guy had diarrhea last week. I think he got it from me because I had it the week before. It was about 4 days. The doctor had me monitor him and he was happy the entire time. I'm not sure about vomiting. When he has a runny nose and swallows a lot of mucus we have the vomit issue.

I hope you and your family get back to normal soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My daughter and husband both had this, but only the dirrhea. They both had it for about a week and it was pretty bad because we had evacuated and weren't in our normal environment to make her feel a little better. But, my doctor said this is a bug goig around and it is the "flu like symptoms" without the full blown flu. There are 3 types, vomiting, vomiting and dirrhea and just dirrhea. I have scheduled for my daughter to get her flu shot tomrrow that way she doesn't get these symptoms or the actual flu anytime soon. Hope your little one is feeling better and your getting some rest too. But it is a bug going around!!

I thought Ike did it to us too (the stress of it all), but my entire family has had it. So I think, Yes it is definitely going around. My neighbors have had it, our good friends in Dallas, my family has had it...and it seems to linger (a milder version) for quite a while. Good luck, I think it's just a virus, so treat the symptoms and time will rid you all of it :) Good luck!

My son had that too! It lasted 9 days and the vomiting and the diarrhea was gross. My pedi said it was a stomach virus and we had to just let it run its course. A couple days later we took him to the childrens hospital and they said the same thing and that its ok for him to vomit once a day, but if dehydration sets in, thats when we should worry. They kinda joked that as long as he is peeing and breathing, he's ok. =) Good luck, it wont last forever, but its horrible!

It is possible that it's just a virus, but it could also be a parasite from the water after IKE depending on where you are. It happens a lot after water is jeopardized. It is treatable, just uncomfortable.
It's a very good thing you are going to the doctor tomorrow.
Good luck.

If it is projectile vomiting, and horrible smelling diarrhea it could be Rotovirus. My baby and I got it around 6 months...it was rough on me, but she seem to stay in good spirits despite it. Dr was able to diagnose it right away. The smell that rotovirus makes in the BM is one you will never forget...but you will definitely want to see a dr if it continues...because the rash onset by the diarrhea...it causes the baby's bottom to blister quickly...or at least it did in our case.

Hi V.,
First I want to say I am sorry that your little one is sick. My 2 1/2 yr old, my husband and myself all just got over this bug. I beat it, my son ended up at the doctors office twice and my husband ended up at the ER. We had mixed syptoms, headaches, vomiting and diareha. My son vomitted for over a week. It was awful. I gave him gatoraid to keep him hydrated. He ended getting an antibiotic shot on the 2nd office visit. He was on oral antibiotic, but his pediatrician said that because he wasnt really eating that the antibiotic could also be aiding in the vomitting. Its been a couple of weeks now and he is still very weak stomached. Anything that has a strong smell makes him gag. I hope she starts doing better soon. And I hope all turns out good back at home.

Take care, God bless.

I'm glad she's feeling better. We just got the awful diarrhea/vomiting 24 hour bug. The baby got it first on Friday night/ Saturday, then me on Sunday, then my 3 and 4 YOs yesterday and now my husband today. My 5 YO is the only one not sick...yet.
