Anyone Know How to Make...
Sugared grapes? I remember on the Weight Watchers website hearing about someone talking about freezing grapes and sugaring them with Jell-O, but I can’t find exactly how it was done.
I searched online and found some places where it talked about dipping the grapes in egg whites but I’m making this for a baby shower and don’t think it would be a good idea to feed the mom-to-be raw eggs.
Any suggestions????

You can get powdered egg whites that are safe. You add water and dip the grapes, then coat them with sugar. They probably have them at Micheal's. They would be with the cake decorating stuff. I haven't done it, but I know my sister has used them for sugared grapes. Good luck.

Original recipe yield: 2 pounds
INGREDIENTS
2 pounds red seedless grapes
1 (3 ounce) package raspberry or cherry flavored gelatin mix
DIRECTIONS
Pluck grapes from their stems and rinse in a colander. Pour the gelatin mix onto a plate. Place grapes on the plate one handful at a time and roll around until coated. Transfer to a pretty dish and refrigerate for 1 hour to allow the gelatin to set.

All I did was sprinkle a little Dry Jello over freshly washed grapes then put them in the freezer for about 1/2 hour. Then enjoy. For the 4th of July last year I did red and blue Jello on "white" grapes. They were a big hit.

The gelatin in the Jell-O mix act to adhere the sugar in the mix to the grapes for freezing.
If you wanted to sugar coat fruit (not frozen) for a table display or garnish, you would use powdered merange, available at cake decorating aisles. Make the merange per the directions, but don't whip it. Dip the fruit just like you would in egg whites, and then roll in sugar. Let them dry and arrange your display. This also works for coating edible flowers for garnishes. Just make sure the flowers were not grown using pesticides or sprays.

You can get pasteurized egg whites at the grocery store. They are safe to eat without any additional cooking. This is what most bakeries use for meringues. If your local store doesn't have them then go to Central Market or Whole Foods. They should be available in pint size cartons. Leftovers can be frozen for other uses.

to my knowledge "sugared fruit" is done with egg whites and is for decoration only not for consumption. Raw egg whites are not good fore anyone to eat.

I have not done this nor seen a recipe, but my guess is that you roll the grapes in the powdered Jello. Experiment some before you do the shower.

Would using water work? Or what if you use gelatin to dip them in (not set; still watery) and then, dip in the sugar?
