Anyone Heard of Being Allergic to Sunscreen?
The last 2 times I put 60 block kid's sunscreen on my 2 1/2 yr. old daughter, she broke out in hives on her face and arms. It goes away after 2 days and some Benadryl, but before I call her doctor, I want to try some different brands to see if there is an indregiant in them that causes her to break out, bc I think she is too young to have all the allergy tests when they stick her with everything.
Has anyone expereinced this and have any suggestions on what we could try first? With the summer approaching, I really want to find something that works to protect her little skin.

Thanks for all the great advice -- I knew you all would have some ideas. I haven't had a chance to try these products yet, but I will let you know what works.

I know you've already closed the Q&A, but my daughter did this too. We finally found a sunscreen, at Bath and Body works, that we could use. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it, it's been awhile, but it was Zinc free and made for very sensitive skin. The tube had cartoon drawn children on the front playing outside...
At any rate, she didn't have the reaction to this medication...and I was so excited to have found it...
The good news is that my daughter outgrew this several years ago. She can now wear normal children's sunscreen, and it's a huge relief!

People can be allergic to all sorts of ingredients that are found in products for the skin or things that you eat or take internally. I would suggest you try Arbonne Baby Care Sunscreen. It is dermatologist and pediatrician-tested, botanically-based without synthetics. Please contact me if you want to try it, there is a 45-day money back guarantee.
No matter what you decide to try, do a patch test on your child's skin with the sunscreen to see what the reaction (if any) is before putting it all over her. This is a good idea with any new product for the skin.

Many people with sensitive skin are allergic to sunscreen. My son and I both blister with most sun screen and my Chinese adopted daughter has problems with about half of the brands. We all use Reviva Beach Baby UVA & UVB Sun Protective Lotion. I buy it through Amazon for $6 a 4 oz bottle (usually get two or three at a time). We use it for all exposed areas. It's only SPF 25, but I don't burn when using it (I'm blond and extremely pale). I also like Lancome Soleil Ultra Protection Face Cream SPF 30. But it tends to be expensive. You can find it online for around $35 a bottle.

Hi L.,
I represent a health and wellness company that has all naturally based products with no harsh chemicals.
Just so you know, I do not sell any products, and the only reason why I am doing this business is because I believe in what they stand for.
When I learned about all the chemicals and fillers that are in our every day products, I decided to inform other people about it too.
My husband has asthma and my little one had eczema, asthma has improved so much that my husband hardly used his inhaler and my little one's eczema is gone for good.
All because I switch to this naturally based products.
I do suggest you to switch too, when I learned that baby shampoo has formaldehyde by the name of Quarternium 15 or Q15 and that laundry detergent has lye (Number 1 indoor polutant) and so many others...I promise myself that I will never buy any product that contains cheap preservatives on them and also that I will try to help others to get rid of toxins in ther homes and families.
Plese let me know if you want more info on this, I would love to help, otherwise, please...keep your little one away from regular harsh chemicals.
Hoping to help,

Hi L.,
There is an ingredient that is in shampoos, sunscreens, lotions that is not only an irritant to the skin but it is also a carcinogen. here is a site to learn more and also here is the company that I get my products from. They don't have the preservatives that 'walmart or target' has. They are a factory direct wholesale shopping company. You will love their products and the best part is that you have an 'empty bottle full money back guarentee' if for some reason they don't suit you. This company has helped my family find relief from my migraines, allergies, my daugters exema. So many things are filled with toxins. Its good to know there are alternatives! http://groups.yahoo.com/i?i=Mol6dpFs1eR7O0PsSUfccXnyT3U&a... is the site of the ingredient I spoke of and www.melaleuca.com is the company that has the safer products. Let me know if you are interested in setting up a temporary account with them and I can help you with that. My email is ____@____.com Have a great day! C.

On Sunday I was at the park with both my kids, we stayed out there for 2 hours. Once we got home my 11 yr old showed me her arms and legs, she had hives all over...we went straight to the ER on Ft. Riley...Doctor ask had I used suncreen on her and of course I had...I told him the brand and he said it was nothing other than the sunscreen that caused it...he told us the hives would go away in about 5 days and to NEVER use that sunscreen again...he put her on benadryl and a topical creme for the itching...he explained to me that it had something to do with the Spring time Sun...and once she is exposed to it more it won't happen again....said he sees alot of this in the early parts of summer....So I hope this helps you...
