Anyone Have Tips for Saving Money with Coupon Websites?

Hi mamas,
I'm looking for some advice on how to become a better "coupon mom." I try to save the family money by buying second-hand (i.e. Craigslist) items, and using the club-card savings at the grocery store. However, I'm interested in how other thrifty moms use coupons or coupon websites. Which ones are best, and do you have any tips on how to get started? I hear there are some great ways to save money out there, but I just need help finding them. Thanks!

Hi A., I have a few websites for coupons:
www.couponcabin.com
www.clevermoms.com
www.cleverbabies.com

You can search by stores. However, I have only been able to use these sites a few times for the coupons because sometimes there are minimum purchase requirements and sometimes the offers are 'not found'.

thegrocerygame.com is supposed to be great...I have a friend who is really into it and says she saves tons and tons of money, and really stocks up on things. I keep meaning to get started, but just haven't. Good luck!

I get coupons from couponsurfer.com, couponbug.com, couponmom.com, and coupons.com. I also get lots of coupons from supplements in the local Sunday newspaper and from some of my magazines (Family Circle, Woman's Day, Ladies Home Journal, etc.). However, what helps me most is being organized. I use two cancelled check files which are accordian style and usually have 12 compartments. I then divide the coupons by type, e.g. cleaning products, health and beauty products, meats, vegetables, etc. I used to pull coupons for the items on my shopping list, but then if I came across an in-store special for a different brand, then I wouldn't have the appropriate coupon. I now take the coupon files to the store every time I go which gives me the flexibility to take advantage of in-store specials. I also joined the website for my local grocery store which has weekly coupons not available in other places. I did keep track of total savings once years ago (irca 1984) when most coupons were valued at 25 cents or less. That year I saved over $400. I have not tracked the savings since that time, but I usually save 5 - 10% on my weekly shopping.

I have two sites that I love! Both of them tell which coupons to use at which stores and when so you are "stacking" them and getting the best deals possible.

www.thegrocerygame.com tell them ____@____.com sent you, please!
The other one is www.frugalisfab.blogspot.com

I've cut my grocery bill by 75% using these sites!

I find that most stores using a Club Card are not offering the best prices across the board and often wind up costing more than going to a store which offers discounts on all items. Case in point: a recent trip to SafeWay to buy an 18-ct carton of eggs and one other item...thinking it was a gallon of milk...cost nearly $12!

I love Winco, but not sure if you have Winco where you are. I actually plan a trip every couple of weeks to get to Winco or go to Food 4 Less the rest of the time. Winco will not take internet coupons, but otherwise, they will take newspaper coupons. And remember those re-usable canvas-like grocery bags. Show the checker the number of bags you have and in most stores, you will get a small discount when you byo.

When I do use internet coupons, my preferred site is coupons.com.

I am a horrible couponer, lol. The best advice I can give is if you are going to purchase anything online, google a coupon code for that company/item first. More often than not you will find one. Good luck!

Hi A.,

I use Couponmom.com They have printable coupons. In the last six months I have managed to trim down our grocery bills to about $90 a week for my family of 5(hubby, me, 18 y/o, 7 y/o and 4 y/o). I plan my menu each week and I make with whatever is on sale. If I really want to serve a particular dish, I will, but only if I can find most of the ingredients on sale. I no longer go to the grocery store without a list and I stick to it. It has become a game I play with myself to see if I can beat the week before. I am saving 200-300 a month doing it this way.

Good luck and God bless

abundantfoodsavings.com. I have managed to cut our grocery bill in half using this website (family of 4). It does take longer to do your shopping, but well worth it. The site tells you all the best deals and where to get coupons for the sale items. Don't use a website like this that charges a fee, there are plenty of free ones out there.

I saw the woman who founded www.couponmom.com on Oprah. She saved almost 80% off her grocery bill on Oprah's challenge! Amazing!
