Anyone Have a Good Christmas Morning Recipe? (Slowcooker or Other Ideas)

We're having Christmas morning this year and I'd love to find something delicious to make for breakfast...perferably something I can just throw in the oven or get out of the crockpot. I'd love to make oatmeal in the crockpot, but the recipes I've seen seem to burn quite easily. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
T.

Bakespace.com is an awesome website filled with thousands of recipes from stay-at-home moms, grandmas and regular every day people. No "fru-fru" stuff! Anyway, it's like myspace for cookers and cakers, they would have some awesome breakfast casseroles on there.

I have been making this for 12 years and people rave. I often don't make the sauce and use syrup. It is made the night before and baked in the morning

Buttermilk Coffee Cake
[http://www.bakespace.com/recipes/detail/Buttermilk-Coffee...]
You could bake it ahead, cover it, and microwave it to warm it slightly in the morning. I made this the other morning and it went over wonderfully with my family AND my In-Laws! I used real buttermilk and pecans, instead of cashews. I have the cookbook, but the recipe in the link is the same.

Also, for an egg & veggie component, I served
Bacon Cheese Frittata
[http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Bacon-Cheese-Frittata/Detail...]
I added about a 1/2 cup each of diced, seeded tomato and diced mushrooms. It will need to cook for slightly longer than it says on the recipe (closer to 45 minutes) but it was also well recieved. You can cut up all the ingredients the night before as well as cook and crumble the bacon and then it is a cinch to put together and pop in the oven.

Also, the allrecipes.com site is great for finding new recipes. I've been enjoying it a lot lately.

Good luck!

I usually do 2 crockpots, one is filled with a hashbrown casserole and the other one with sticky buns.

The hashbrown casserole is a toss in...
hasbrowns
shredded cheese we use cheddar and mozzerella
can of condensed soup(your favorite flavor we use cheddar or cream of mushroom)
chopped up onions
Your preference or all 3 bacon, sausage, ham
very optional chopped up mushrooms/jalepeno peppers/green peppers/other meats/cream cheese
2-6 eggs depending on whether your filling a small crock or a huge one.

Mix all together, plug in at bedtime(okay this may be late if you are trying to get kids to go down. In AM you can sprinkle more cheese on top or just go as is.

Sticky buns/brush oil on the entire surface of crock before starting
bottom of crock
butter/brown sugar/vanilla/pecans/optional crushed pineapple put crock on high until melty
use either homemade cinnamon rolls(not me) or take your favorite uncooked frozen rolls, crescents from a can and flatten with rolling pin, spread butter and lots of cinnamon and sugar and roll and slice like you would if you were making cinnamon rolls and place in crockpot ontop of as my kids say, the goo. and put it on low overnight. Sticky and gooey and yum in the am.

I've made a breakfast casserole for years and my family just loves it! It's very easy and can be mixed together the night before and baked the next morning. I'm writing the basic recipe but it can be altered to whatever you have in the fridge! Try making a small one today so you can adjust to your taste. Im also including a Finnish Pancake recipe that is just as easy and so delicious. It's like eating a big slice of a crepe. I'll heat up whatever type of jelly @ Raspberry, strawberry etc., and have that on the side. Everyone will think you slaved over these 2 recipes and they are so easy. The Pancake will riaise and come down during cooking like a souffle so don't worry you did something wrong!

Breakfast casserole (for 9X13 pan)

9 eggs
2-3 cups milk - I use whole for this is won't be as watery
1 t salt
1 1/2 t dry mustard - made many of times without if I don't have any and it's fine
3-5 slices bread torn into pieces
1 1/2 cups cheese - I use whatever type I have on hand, but cheddar is what's called for
1 1/2 C ham, sausage, or bacon (cooked first)- taste great
with any - to save time I'll buy pre cooked bacon or the pre cut ham (my Mom will make her's with Spam for the memories)

Cover greased pan with the bread - I'll add more if it seems there's not enough. Mix everything else and pour over bread- refrigerate over night( not needed ) Bake for 1 hour or until middle is done - I'll normally have other things in the oven Christmas morning - if you're doing the sqame thing, it may be a little longer.

Finnish Pannukakku

6 eggs
1 1/2 C milk
1 1/2 C flour
2 t sugar
1 t salt
1/4 - 1/2 C butter or margarine
(It doesn't call for it but I add 1-2 t vanilla)

Whisk eggs, milk , flour sugar and salt. Let stand for 30 minutes. Pre heat oven to 450'

Put butter in 9X13 pan, place in oven until butter melts. Remove from oven, swirl butter around. Pour batter in pan. Bake 20-30 minutes or until edges have puffed up and are golden brown and center is set.

Enjoy and have wonderful memories this Christmas!

I'm a little late in the reply, but I have 2 fantastic recipes I have used many times. Both recipes I can make the night before and toss in the oven on in the morning. The first I saw mention, a strata. The second, a fantastic baked french toast, I found at a bed and breakfast we stayed in up in Canada.

This Strata is from Cooks Illustrated.

8 - 10 slices supermarket French bread (1/2-inch thick) or Italian bread (6 - 7 ounces)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter , softened
8 ounces bulk breakfast sausage , crumbled
3 medium shallots , minced (about 1/3 cup)
8 ounces white button mushrooms , cleaned and quartered
Table salt and ground black pepper
1/2 cup medium-dry white wine , such as Sauvignon Blanc
6 ounces Monterey Jack cheese , grated (about 1 1/2 cups)
6 large eggs
1 3/4 cups half-and-half
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley leaves

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 225 degrees. Arrange bread in single layer on large baking sheet and bake until dry and crisp, about 40 minutes, turning slices over halfway through drying time. (Alternatively, leave slices out overnight to dry.) When cooled, butter slices on one side with 2 tablespoons butter; set aside.

2. Fry sausage in medium nonstick skillet over medium heat, breaking sausage apart with wooden spoon, until sausage has lost raw color and begins to brown, about 4 minutes; add shallots and cook, stirring frequently, until softened and translucent, about 1 minute longer. Add mushrooms to skillet, and cook until mushrooms no longer release liquid, about 6 minutes; transfer mixture to medium bowl and season to taste with salt and pepper. Add wine to skillet, increase heat to medium-high, and simmer until reduced to 1/4 cup, 2 to 3 minutes; set aside.

3. Butter 8-inch square baking dish with remaining 1 tablespoon butter; arrange half the buttered bread slices, buttered-side up, in single layer in dish. Sprinkle half of sausage mixture, then 1/2 cup grated cheese evenly over bread slices. Arrange remaining bread slices in single layer over cheese; sprinkle remaining sausage mixture and another 1/2 cup cheese evenly over bread. Whisk eggs and parsley in medium bowl until combined; whisk in reduced wine, half-and-half, 1 teaspoon salt, and pepper to taste. Pour egg mixture evenly over bread layers; cover surface flush with plastic wrap, weigh down (see note, above), and refrigerate at least 1 hour or up to overnight.

4. Remove dish from refrigerator and let stand at room temperature 20 minutes. Meanwhile, adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 325 degrees. Uncover strata and sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheese evenly over surface; bake until both edges and center are puffed and edges have pulled away slightly from sides of dish, 50 to 55 minutes (or about 80 minutes for doubled recipe). Cool on wire rack 5 minutes; serve.

Blueberries & Cream French Toast

8 oz. softened cream cheese
1/2 cup Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
1/4 cup Softened butter
1-1/2 cups Milk
4 Eggs
1 Loaf of French bread cut into 1" slices
1-2 cups Fresh or frozen blueberries

In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and butter. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in milk.

Arrange bread slices in rows, slightly overlapping each other (I jammed them in), in a greased 9"x13" (23 x 33 cm) baking dish. Pour cream cheese mixture evenly over bread. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand for 5-10 minutes or over-night. (I put some book on top of wrap to weigh it down overnight, making sure bread is totally saturated.)

Just before baking, uncover, sprinkle blueberries on top. Bake at 325 degrees for 45-60 minutes until golden brown.

Baked french toast is always a winner. You put everything together the night before and then bake it in the morning. I make this often and a lot of times I don't even put the syrup mixture on it. It's very easy to cut the recipe in half.

Baked French toast
INGREDIENTS
•1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut diagonally in 1 inch slices
•8 eggs
•2 cups milk
•1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
•2 teaspoons vanilla extract
•1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
•3/4 cup butter
•1 1/3 cups brown sugar
•3 tablespoons light corn syrup

DIRECTIONS
1.Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange the slices of bread in the bottom. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour over bread slices, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
2.The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and corn syrup; heat until bubbling. Pour over bread and egg mixture.
3.Bake in preheated oven, uncovered, for 40 minutes.

Delicious, comforting, easy. Dutch Baby
Makes 4 to 6 servings.

6 eggs, room temperature
1 cup milk, room temperature
1 cup sifted bread flour or all-purpose flour*
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
5 tablespoons butter
Freshly squeezed lemon juice
Powdered or confectioners sugar
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. NOTE: It is very important that you preheat your oven. Place oven rack on the middle rack of your oven. Place a large, heavy ovenproof frying pan or a cast-iron skillet (I like to use my 10-inch cast-iron skillet), in the oven until hot and sizzling. While pan is heating, prepare your batter.

In a large bowl, beat the eggs until light and frothy; add milk, flour, vanilla extract, and cinnamon; beat for 5 minutes more. The batter will be thin, but very smooth and creamy.

Using a pot holder, remove the hot skillet from the oven; add the butter; tilting the pan to melt the butter and coat the skillet. Pour the prepared batter into the hot skillet, all at once, and immediately return the skillet to the oven.
Bake approximately 20 to 25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown (bake until the pancake puffs up around the edges - it may puff irregularly in the center
Top with your favorite topping and serve .dust the top with powdered sugar.
It's easier to make than explaining how to make it. YUM

I make an egg casserole and apple cinnamon pancakes. I don't use a recipe for my pancakes - my mom's recipe of a little bit of this and a little bit of that. :-) I dice up an apple, use self rising flour, couple shakes of cinnamon, some sugar and applesauce - in lieu of oil.

Here is my recipe for the egg casserole. I make it before we leave for the inlaws for Christmas Eve dinner. :-) My sister is vegetarian, so I use veggie sausage - no need to brown. I've also used the Morning Star veggie skillet w/sausage, onion and potato. Enjoy your holidays!

Sausage and Egg Casserole

INGREDIENTS:
6 slices bread, cubed
1 pound sausage, browned, drained
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
8 each eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon, salt
pepper to taste

PREPARATION:
Cube bread and place evenly in greased 9x13 pan or baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with sausage and cheese. Mix eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Pour over ingredients in pan. May cover and chill overnight.

(If left overnight, remove from refrigerator 15 minutes before baking). Bake 45 minutes at 325 degrees or until set. Cut into squares to serve.
Serves 8 to 10

T.,
I apologize for replying late, but I just saw this. I have one that I love to use either Christmas Morning or New Year's Morning. My family LOVES it! Hope you try it. You make it the night before (has to be refrigerated overnight) and just put it in the oven the next morning. Here is the recipe:

Brunch Casserole

Yields: 8-10 servings
Preparation time: 30 minutes
(Must make ahead of time)

Ingredients:
6 slices bread (toasted, buttered and de-crusted)
1-lb package breakfast sausage (i.e. 1 Owens sausage or 2 Little Sizzlers boxes)
5-6 oz. Shredded Medium-sharp Cheddar Cheese (note: extra cheese is needed, so you may use 8-10 oz.)
5 eggs
1 teaspoon ground dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1 pint Heavy Whipping Cream

Preparation:
1. Brown crumbled sausage (like taco meat)
2. Place bread (toasted, buttered and de-crusted) in bottom of 9"x13" greased glass pan
3. Place browned crumbled sausage on bread. Sprinkle cheese on top of sausage.
4. Beat eggs, salt, cream, and mustard. Pour over cheese. Cover. Refrigerate OVERNIGHT.
5. Bake in 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.

If desired, you may use an additional pound of sausage.

(This recipe was from the Galveston Jr. League cookbook)

Note:
I only use 1 pound of Owens sausage (mild or medium) and that is usually sufficient

Enjoy!
