Anyone Have Ideas on How to Make a Nice Family Cookbook Economically?

Does anyone have any ideas on the best and cheapest way to make a family cookbook? I have seen some sites already but they seem to want you to make a minimum of a 100 or 200 books - I only want to make maybe 5. I have been collecting recipes from the family and would like to compile them into a book - one that will last. Any ideas on the best way to do this economically? I kind of want to get it done by Christmas, but we'll see!

Thanks!!!
L.

They have several styles of books and cover choices. That sounds like a great idea!

I would just take it to Kinko's! You can have it printed on nice paper and spiral bound with a plastic or cardstock cover right there in the store.

I recently had a document bound it was about $5 including the plastic covers (solid on back, clear on front). Of course printing/copying is extra and will depend on how many pages and if you have color.

If you have a good printer, I would encourage you to just buy heavy weight paper and do your own printing. If you're wanting the shiny, slick feel for your pages, use brochure paper.

Hi L.!

Check out shutterfly.com, I just made a holiday recipe book from that site. It very easy and I think they start at $12.99 for 20 pages and then maybe $1 per page extra after that. They always have their photo books on sale at 20% off too when you buy more than one (first one is regular price and then the next 4 copies you order with are 20% off each!).

With shutterfly, you can add in pictures, pick your layouts, and make each page a different background - it's very personalized.

Good luck!

They even have a nice cookbook template.

is a self publishing company where you can order per book -- you set the book up and they can be ordered individually. Lulu tells you how much it will cost to print each book (based on your parameters) and people can order one at a time. It's a great site, and they have a much better explanation that I do on there, lol. Good luck!

I think Shutterfly.com has an option to make a recipe book, and you can order as few or as many as you want. I think it turns out sort of like a bound book or scrapbook photobook.

I did this last year and made an cook book with family photos. I used Creative Memories software - Storybook Creator. There is a free ____@____.com/daniellemohr - you can make and no fee til you print. You can make as little or many as you want. It saves on your computer & on website, so you can keep *forever* on your computer/add to it in years to come.

If you need help, ask - there are about 30 templates you can download. Good luck. ENJOY!!!

Hi L., I went through this same process last year.. I ended up buying a scrapbooking program and making a holiday cookbook in the program with one of the Holiday templets. I then had to export the book to the company and it was hardbound and mailed back to me. It turned out to be really a great book and I only bought 3. There was no minimum purchase required. The company I bought the program from and had the booked bound at is called Top Line Creations. You can google them. I had a great experience with them. Hope that helps. J. E
