I just posted about my garden, and realized I was curious about salsa recipes that I can make with some ingredients from my garden. Anyone have any favorite salsa recipes they would like to share? I LOVE salsa, and we plan on having people over alot now that we have settled into our new house, so I thought I would rely on my fellow mamasource pals to give me their favorite tried and true salsa recipes :) Thanks in advance for sharing :)

This is my favorite, fast salsa by Tyler Florence. I make a gallon of this every year. I will make it as the recipe says and I also zip it though a food processor to make it a little smoother. I have even used whole canned tomatoes ,just don't use all the juice. It freezes well too. Enjoy!

Salsa Fresca

Ingredients

* 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped
* 1/4 red onion, chopped
* 1 jalapeno, minced
* 8 cilantro sprigs, chopped
* 3 garlic cloves, minced
* Juice of 1 lime
* 1/4 cup olive oil
* 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients together. Toss thoroughly. Let stand 15 minutes before serving.

Roasted Tomato Serrano Salsa w/ Avocado (medium heat)
• 1 lb tomatoes
• 2 Serrano peppers
• 3 cloves of garlic, peels left on
• 1 avocado, diced
• 1 small onion, diced
• 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
• Salt & pepper to taste
• Fresh squeezed lime juice to taste
Set oven to broil and adjust top rack to the highest setting. Place tomatoes, Serrano peppers, and the garlic cloves on a non-stick cooking sheet. Place the cooking sheet directly under the broiler for 5 minutes or until the tops of the tomatoes are blackened. Flip the tomatoes, peppers, and garlic over and place back under the broiler for an additional 3 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Rinse the diced onion in cold water in a colander or sieve and allow to drain thoroughly.

Pull the peels off of the tomatoes and the garlic cloves. They should slide right off. Discard. Twist off the tops of the peppers and discard. Place the tomatoes, peppers, and garlic in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a bowl. Add avocado, onion, and cilantro. Add a generous pinch of salt and pepper and at least 1 Tbsp of lime juice, more to taste. Stir and taste. Adjust seasonings and serve with tortilla chips or use as a sauce over chicken, steak, or fish.

If you have tomatillos, you can substitute those for the tomatoes for the best salsa verde you've ever had!

I roast the jalepenos and garlic, skin on, in a pan over medium heat for a few minutes, turning often. Then let cool and remove the skin of the garlic, chop. I cut the jalepenos with gloves. Use seeds if you like it hot. Take fresh cilantro and remove the leaves and chop. In a blender add tomatoes, and a dash of vinegar, salt, cumin. Add hot pepper, garlic, and cilantro. You can add lime juice if you like. I really like lime juice if you are making the tomatillo kind. If you like your salsa chunky, you can blend and then add a few diced tomatoes at the end.

I have two recipes: a tomato salsa and a watermelon salsa that I just made last night for the first time and loved.

Tomato Salsa:
Tomatoes in food processor(I use on the vine or Roma)
Vidala onion chopped
Jalapeno(I use two)
Chopped cilantro to taste(we love cilantro so I use alot like 3/4 to 1 whole bunch)
fresh lime juice
salt to taste

Watermelon Salsa:
watermelon cut in small pieces
can of black beans drained and rinsed
vidala onion chopped
2 jalapenos seeded and cut in small pieces
fresh cilantro(again I used a lot)
2 tsp brown sugar
1 garlic clove minced
salt to taste

I served this with lime tortilla chips and it was really good and refreshing. It sounds different I know, but was really good! It would be great with margaritas:)

I have a very simple recipe - though you really have to do it to taste:

6 tomatoes - squeeze the juice out of them (or the salsa will be too runny)
1/4 to 1/2 onion, depending on preference
fresh juice of 1 lime
1 tbsp of garlic salt
1 jalapeño (or however hot you want it)
chopped cilantro (to taste)

Put all ingredients minus the cilantro in a food processor and chop. Blend in the chopped cilantro and voila, you're done!

Hope you enjoy!

Here is our favorite: (I don't really measure, just add whatever to taste)

seeded, diced tomatoes (roma work best if you've got them)
red onion
green/red/yellow bell peppers
jalapenos
canned black beans (rinsed)
canned corn (or cooked fresh if you grow it)
chopped garlic
add a bit of red wine vinegar and olive oil
salt and pepper
chili powder
cumin

This is so yummy, I make a huge bowl several times each summer. In addition to just dipping chips, I also use it in tacos and over chicken. Sometimes, I just grab a spoon and dig in because its almost a salad!

in a blender add the following, a couple fresh tomatoes and 2 cans of diced tomatoes, a half of onion, a half of jalepeno, a small bunch of cilantro, garlic salt (to taste) and black pepper. blend until a thick liquid. it tastes best if it sits over night in the fridge. It's my most popular recipe and also my easiest one. Serve with tortilla chips/ on eggs, fish.... Enjoy

Here is our favorite salsa recipe, although I usually up the lime juice, vinegar, salt & pepper. It makes a ton, so it's a great recipe for a party. Leftovers are perfect on grilled chicken or salmon though! I usually serve El Milagro chips with this salsa. Enjoy!

This is a really quick and easy one that you can keep on hand for last minute, although it is the one we go for! Purchase salsa seasoning mix by Lawrey's found with the gravy, taco, and other powder season mixes. On the back it tells you to add so many tomatoes and cilantro if you want. We add tomatoes and red onion to ours. No cilantro b/c not everyone in the family is a fan. Chop onion and tomato add seasoning, refrigerate and serve a little while later. Of course the longer it sits the better it is. We also only serve with tortilla chips that are in the paper bag with the woman on the front making tortillas...can't remember the name of the chips but they are the best!!! Have fun eating!!

Hi Key,
Here is one I like,
Roast 3 big tomatoe and 6 or 8 jalapenos, also a clove or garlic, put them in aluminum foil and cover a little, not completley so the tomaoes and chiles can steam and cook on its juices and get burn a little bit too. blend them as pureed or chunks how ever you like it, add salt and 1/2 cup of onions diced very tiny and 1/4 cup of cilantro also chopped very small. I hope you'll like it.
