Anyone Have a Toddler with Frequent Impacted Sinuses?

I am the mother a really wonderful 4 year old boy who has spent the majority of the last two and a half years very ill. He has multiple medical issues and we have been trying to take things one day at a time, but having a 4 year old, an 18 month old and a baby due in September I pray every day for some relief. I found out today that he has severely impacted sinuses again (the fourth time) and we have an appointment with an ENT next week, but I just don't know what to expect. The impacted sinuses have been giving him migraines which induce vomitting. He can't keep much down and the last time this happened we had esophogial damage and he started going into kidney failure. It took us months to get him stable and I am nervous about the thought of going back to where we have been and I am also nervous about what it may require to fix the problem. Has anyone else dealt with these type of issues? Thank you in advance for any advice you have.

What can I do next?

Push fluids. Water and clear fluids (juices) are best. Hydration is a key releaver sinus trouble. Also, be sure he knows how to BLOW his nose instead of SNIFF it up.

I hope this helps, but I think it's a little after the fact for the second suggestion.

HI A.,

Have your son tested for cystic fibrosis.
I am so sorry to hear he's had so many problems and is continuing to suffer.
I have a 7 yr old niece with CF and your son's symptoms are very similar to what she went through before being diagnosed.
She was 2 1/2 when diagnosed and you say your sons symptoms started around that age.
Another obvious symptom of CF is suffering from painful constipation and CF patients don't gain weight properly.
I pray your son does not have this but it's definitely something you want to rule out because the sooner the better that it's found to start proper treatments.

God bless and take care!

Hello A.,

has he been tested for allergies? my son can't handle milk products more than 2 times per week or he is on his way to a sinus infection. figure out what he's allergic to. his pediatrician kept saying that it was just allergies. I kept saying it was milk. after I stopped the cow milk products we didn't have to see the doctor every other week. then he finally said, keep him off milk and even wrote a note for school. it's hard. but it's so worth it.

then is my ragweed allergy... I though well, just a bit of a stuffy nose. well after I started avoiding ragweeds (lettuce, sunflower seeds, sunflower oil, safflower oil, artichokes, chamomile, echinacea, and more... I go weeks without needing a decongestant. Good luck! ~C.~

I would get him tested for allergies-food and other things. We have a great allergy Dr. that we would highly recommend. His name is Dr. Tanna and there is also Dr. Haden and both are great. He sees adults and kids.

His contact info:
Dr. R. Tanna or Dr. Haden
1000 College Street

He does testing at Cook's hospital, and it is all done thru blood testing. We had our 2 year old tested and he is on medication. He also does a written report, which you will get a copy and he will send one to the pediatrician. He also gets an X-ray as well.

Our son had 2 sets of ear tubes and that has helped a lot. He's on Allertan and Nasonex and Singulair for asthma. He has an inhaler-albuterol also. He use to cough a whole lot, now it is very rare that he coughs.

I would try changing his diet and keeping a food log and see when he has the most trouble.

Hope this helps.

Hi oh that poor baby- my son is 17 now but had sinus infections ALL the time- We found out that he only has 3 sinuses- but my doctor put him on bactrim for 30 days and he hasnt had a ear/sinus infection since then. I would def check the alergy issues as well- by getting two opinions is your best bet- Being in the Dallas areas gives you the benefit of some great hospitals- good luck!
