Anyone Have a Posturpedic Bed and Hate It?

We are going bed shopping this weekend and the hubby us leaning toward the Posturpedic. I've heard a few positive comments but so far no one seems to have any complaints. Before we spend $4000-5000 for a new mattress set, I'd like to hear any cons. We bought our current bed three years ago, but it gives us back and body aches all over. Don't want to make that same mistake again.

What can I do next?

We bought the Sleep Number bed about 3 years ago. It's the king sized split adjustable (can move legs or head up and down independently of spouse's side.) It was in that $4000-$5000 range. To give you background, as long as I could remember, I tossed and turned all night and woke up with limited neck mobility for the first few hours in the morning. Between the Sleep Number bed and pillow, I immediately started sleeping through the night and could move my neck normally in the morning. I was so happy. I was even very comfortable sleeping throughout my fourth pregnancy.

But after a year or two, my body adjusted to the bed. I now have the same sleeping issues and neck issues I did before, although not as bad. And when I am not sleeping on my bed, (like in a hotel or visiting someone's house) I am so stiff the next morning I can barely move.

I keep adjusting the number on the bed and that does help for a while, but then my body acclimates and I have to switch it to a different number again. My husband still loves the bed, but I am not sure it's worth what we paid for it.

Sorry, don't have the posturpedic. But we love our Sleep Number bed!!! It is nice in case one of you likes a firm bed and the other likes a softer bed.

Good luck! L.

We used to have a posturpedic. It was nice. after about 5 yrs it really started breaking down and giving me back problems. One other thing that drove me nuts about the Sealy mattresses is that you can feel every single movement on the mattress. the spring are interlocked so if you have a husband who will toss or turn you will feel everything!!

So we bought a Simmons Beautyrest this time around and I am liking it just fine. It is very comfortable and I get a great night's sleep on it. Minor back ache in the morning...but I have a terrible sleep position so it is more my own fault than anything bed-related.

My sis had a select comfort/ sleep number bed. They liked it just fine for a year or two and then had nothing but problems with it. I would stay away...but that's just me.

One thing that I would reccommend is to stay away from the pillow top mattresses. If you want something cushy then get a plush...but not a pillow top. The pillow top will conform to your body and you will end up with big flat spots in the pillowtop. Plush mattresses don't do this as much.

One other thing...$4-5K seems like an incredible amount to spend on a mattress set. We spent about $1500 on our King set. Not the top of the line...but a nice mid-range set...and it has served us just fine. Save your $$$, find a decent sale and spend the extra on a vacation :)

We have one and we wished we went with temperpedic or a sleep number. We have had ours for four and half years and it is all lumpy now. It was nice at first. mY in laws also got rid of theirs that they had for the same amount of time that we had ours and they bought a sleep number which they love. I laid on their bed and it is much softer. I would take a look at those 1st. Hope it goes well.

We have a Posturpedic w/ 3 inches of memory foam. We were happy with it at first, but it did not wear well. Within 2 years the edges at the base of the bed have unravelled, my husbands side has permanent indentations in it--we both wake up stiff and achy. We regret not testing out the Tempur-pedic and taking advantage of the lengthy trial period. I have heard that a very small percentage of people who own a Tempur-pedic return it for symptoms similar to motion sickness (nausea, dizziness). Apparently, the mattress adjusts so well it can make those prone to motion sickness feel as if they are floating. Just something to be aware of.

Sorry, no experience with a Posturpedic, but we've had a Sleep Number for about 6 years and love it! We have kind of the middle of the road, queen set and I think it was about $1700 at the time. Good luck!

We have a Select Comfort and really like it. Wish we would have spend the extra $$ and gotten the pillow top though....
