Anyone Experienced with the ADD Medication Vyvanse?

I have two boys with ADHD and we medicate. Sorry for those of you who disagree - I see lots of those responses - but it was the best choice for our family. We are going through the same thing - need a little tweaking. First was Adderall. My oldest lost too much weight so we switched him to Concerta. Loved it but needed something longer acting so we tried Daytrana. LOVED it but unfortunately the patch left my son with really itchy hips so back to Concerta. I am very interested in Vyvanse. I've heard great things about it. I know it is longer acting than most meds out there. Just make sure it is not in the same family of medications of what you are currently using. Hi, my kids are 1, 15, 12 and 8. Although we don't have an experience with Vyvanse, my oldest takes Metadate with is an extended release drug and we are very happy with it.

I know how worrisome it is to medicate kids and I would strongly suggest that you take your son to a psychiatrist regarding his ADD meds, and not just rely on your pediatrician. Psychiatrists are specifically trained to prescribe the kinds of drugs that our boys need and you will get a complete picture of all available meds from him/her.

My son has Non-Attentive ADD and uses Concerta. It has worked wonders for him, his attitude is fabulous!

I am not experienced with that Med., but A while back a friend told me about Concerta. Her Son didn't have bad results with that, when it came to not eating, because he too was very skinny. My Dr. placed my son on it a couple of years ago, and I have been very happy with it. I only give it to him on school day's. We gave it to him when he woke up. When we started the Concerta, my Dr. wrote the office staff, requesting they give him his meds at lunch time. He had to remeber to go to the office and get it though. They do not tell anyone, so he doesn't have to get embarrased. By the time dinner rolled around, it is usually out of thier system. That way they still are hungry.
Once my son got older, we changed to a pill that was just in the morning, but still was the Concerta. It is still working good.

My son is 7 soon will be 8 and he was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5. He has been on the medication Concerta since then and we have had great progress with it. We have only had to up it one time and that was recently. He is also a small guy he only weighs 53 pounds. I would ask to try Concerta it done wonders for my son.
