Anyone Ever Had Cosmetic Surgery or Liposuction?

I never thought I would ever ask this question to anyone before, but I am really considering liposuction. I have one child, but prior to him I had been wrestling with this idea, though I have never known anyone who has undergone liposuction before. I am devastated by my stomach, hips, and thighs. I have exercised and been on several diets, but the dimples under the skin will not disappear. I feel that I have wasted much precious time with my family exercising. I would appreciate any information from people who have had this procedure, such as cost and length of recovery. Also, where you went and who you would recommend in this area. Thank you so much!

If you think exercise is a waste then it sounds like you will continue with the same bad habits that got you were you are now...I wouldn't recommend liposuction and spending that kind of money if you were not serious about a lifestyle change. If you have it done and you don't change your habits the fat WILL COME BACK. I have seen this happen to my mother. Sure it is a quick fix, but over time you will look like you do now. Go to a nutritionist and hire a personal trainer before you try lipo. Tune into the biggest loser...it can be done just look at the amazing results there. Good luck to you.

I haven't had any procedures (although I can't deny that I have dreamed about it!!), but I have a little background. Please be sure to select a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). This is the ONLY board-certification for plastic surgeons that is recognized and approved by the American Medical Association.

Any licensed physician is legally allowed to advertise as a "plastic" or "cosmetic" surgeon, even if he or she has no formal surgical training. Plus, all MDs have some sort of Board Certification, so it's easy for them to say that they are "board certified." But when you call to make a consultation, ask about WHICH board-certification(s) the doctor has. Hopefully, it will be with the ABPS.

A great referral source is the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery or the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Take a look at their website http://www.surgery.org/

Very best wishes to you!

I had liposuction on my hips, thighs and butt at Dr. Barsky's office in Elmhurst. It cost $5,500. They told me I was a perfect candidate for the surgery. Great health I weighed 125 at 5'3" but hated my saddlebags and cellulite. The surgery was a bad experience. I had to wear this stretchy body suit for a long time after and felt numbness and tingling where they did the suctioning. It has been 5 years and my skin is still not the same with occasional tingling and dryness and weird coloring. He kept telling me at each post op visit to stay positive and I would have a great result. He said it would take 9 months to see the full result. After one year I went back crying to have the procedure redone for free because I looked horrible. The dimples looked worse now cause my skin was loose. He said he could try sticking this rake like thing he discovered in France under my skin and rake the bumps flat. I would just have to pay the $550 for the anestesia. So I did that with another year of pain and recovery. It did no good. I feel like my saddlebags didn't return even though I gained and lost 50 lbs with my baby but the skin and dimples are bad. I wish someone would have told me that cellulite can look worse after liposuction-I would not have done it.

Hi Robin,

I have had cosmetic surgery. At age 28, I still had a AA bra size. I felt like i looked like a boy no matter what I wore. I had my breasts done, and I couldn't be happier. I saw Dr. Placik. I would recommend him to any one of my friends... My best friend had a lipo/mini tuck with him. His credentials are excellent, but their office is a bit laid back... they are not a bunch of tightly wound surgeons. he is a relaxed kind of guy, but i see it as friendly. my SIL went to see him after her c-section, and she saw the atmosphere as 'unprofessional'. So if nothing else... you be the judge :)

Recovery. though my surgery was different... i do recall my best friend describing hers. there is something called a "J-tube" that is inserted into your incision, it drains fluid into a bag, and you need to measure it. This is fluid that needs to drain, so there is no way around that, but she said it was kind of nasty. so FYI.

You might want to discuss with your doctor, what a reasonable result will be. I've read multiple times that you cannot get rid of cellulite altogether. Dr. Placik is happy to show you his work on patients that are similar to your case.

Here's his website... I've dropped you into his bio with the link, so you can see his credentials. I verified all this info before paying him 6 grand to give me DD's -

bottom line... i have no regrets, i would do it again in a heartbeat, and I would use Dr. Placik for anything else i would want done. (I have toyed with the idea of doing a mini tuck post c-section... but it's not a priority)

Good luck

Hi Robin,
I've had liposuction about 5 years ago and I LOVED the results. Right now I would say I need another one because I just had my first baby and, just like you said, I'm devastated by my looks. If you are thinking about having more kids, please do wait to get this procedure done. My advise about costs won't help you much as I had it done in Brazil. The doctor was EXCELLENT and I would say the recovery was much easier than I expected. I was in pain for about 2 days, after that it got much easier. I had lipo on my belly, hips, thighs and knees. Your body will be bruised for quite some time but the results are definitely worth it. As soon as I am done having kids I will go right back to Brazil to see that doctor again!!!
