Anyone Else Have Same Situation with Their Wedding Rings?

For about a week, my ring finger has been bothering me. So the other day my finger was hurting so bad, because I realized the skin underneath my wedding rings was super dry cracked, and raw. So I took off my rings for a few nights to let it heal, and it did, so I put them back on. It was fine for a day or two I made sure I tried it well, put lotion and etc on. Anyways, last night my finger again was giving me issues, so I tried turning it and couldnt! I looked down and my finger was and still is really swollen. I tried, and tried calmly to get it off. Everything. Soap, oil, lotion even windex, and tried using a string to wind it to try and unscrew it so to say off my finger. My husband tried to help but nothing. I iced my hand for a longtime, and elevated it. So I tried to go to sleep thinking it would be better this morning but its not. Im kinda freaking out. I dont know what else to do. It hurts real bad, and I cannot even twist it, it wont even move so now I am thinking I might have to bite the bullet and go to the jewler and have it cut off :(

Anyone else gone through this? And does it hurt when they do cut it off? And does anyone have an idea of how much it cost to get it cut off, and then later fixed?
Thanks in advance ladies.

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies for all the help! I ended up going to Kay's Jeweler because Whitehall Jeweler where my husband got it went out of buisness. Anyways, they were very nice, and helpful, and ended up cutting off my hand, it did hurt! Lol, but not as much as having that ring stuck on. It was free, and they said it was going to be $80 altogether to get both my rings sized up. They said my fingers going to take 3 weeks to heal, crazy. But it feels so much better, circulations great isnt it? Thanks again ladies, I apreciate all the advice!

Yes I did have that problem. I had a jeweler cut it off then put it back again. The cut off was free but I resized mine for $20. It sounds like yours is too tight. If you get the right size then you won't have this problem. Go for it!

Just curious if it might be an allergy. Overnight I became allergic to my white gold wedding rings. Same reaction but with a horrible rash that made the skin under my ring raw. Rings been off for weeks : ( and no more issues....

I would say soak your hand, while sitting, in an elevated position in cool to cold water. When my hands are swollen I can sit and hold them just above my breast line, maybe on top of my head for a while, then the swelling goes down. I suggest the cool/cold water because when my hands get cold I can't type for my rings swirling around while I type.

If that doesn't work then I suggest testing your finger and nail for circulation. If any numbness, discoloration, etc...go get it off immed. You don't want to lose this finger. I would ask the jeweler about the repair and what might be going on.

I break out under my wedding rings when I use soft soap brand for hand washing. If I have to use it I always make sure I move my rings around while washing and then again when drying. I have to rinse, repeat, then dry just to make sure I am getting all possible soap residue off underneath. It might be the lotion you are using too. One can develop an allergy at any time to something. I ate some almonds the other day and my tongue swelled and I got to ride to the hospital in a nice ambulance. I am now allergic to almonds, at 51 years old.

Before you get it cut off try Preparation H. When I was pregnant I swelled and my ring got stuck...BAD. We tried all the tricks you mentioned, plus conditioner and a trick we found online involving wrapping a string around the finger to squeeze the skin and get it off. NOTHING worked. I came across something online that said to try the Preparation H. Since it works by reducing swelling I figured it was worth a shot...and I found myself compelled to explain to the checkout guy why I was buying it (he could have cared less LOL). We put it on and rubbed it on my finger and about 10 minutes later reapplied and we were able to get the ring off. I am not certain that any swelling went down or if it was just slippery enough, but we were finally able to get the ring off without cutting it. After the baby I did have to get my ring resized, it wasn't too pricey, I think it was $50. I know it was less than $100 and the jeweler told me they charged $25 to cut a ring off.

I went through something similare a couple of months back. If your finger starts to turn blue run to the nearest ER. You may be havicleaned by the jewler ng a reaction to some chemicla that got under the ring. I was able to get it off with no problem but ended up getting the ring professionally clean by the jeweler bought it from.

I finally had to have my rings made bigger because of not being able to get them off. I finally decided to have it done and now can happily wear both rings comfortably! And it was super expensive - not sure where you can get rings sized for $25?

I was about to suggest Windex but see you've tried it. Try holding your hand above your head for as long as possible then use Windex. And mornings are the worst time - fingers are swollen in the AM.

Good luck!!

I had the exact thing happen to me.

The cause of the problem is that bacteria (gunk from cooking, handling stuff all day) gets trapped between your ring and your skin causing the irritation.

Call a local jeweler to ask for their advice in getting the ring off (I doubt it will have to be cut off). Once off, have it cleaned by a jeweler often and take it off when preparing food.

Good luck!!

Usually for me just being in a colder environment will make my rings looser. I have noticed during the summertime my rings will be a lot more "snug" than they are during the winter. I'm being sarcastic here but maybe go ask your local grocery store if you can go stand in their meat room freezer for a bit and brig you some lubricant to get the darn thing off! Gawd-how frustrating but everyone has already suggested and you have already tried most suggestions here.......maybe go to the doctor and they can give you a water pill to flush out everything-lol! No I wouldn't suggest that but maybe if you go to the doctor they would deem it as medically necessary to be cut off???? Then I would assume the insurance company would pick up that cost just like anything else that gets stuck in someone's cavity for whatever reasoning. Good luck!
Make sure you stay away from the salt/sodium and drink plenty of water-as much as you can stand.

I went to a local family-owned jeweler and they did not charge me at all to cut it off (and it did not hurt at all :) For repair, I think it was about $25, which was really for the cost of the gold they had to add to make it bigger.

A few years ago my husband had to have surgery and his wedding band wouldn't come off - they tried everything - vaseline, twisting, pulling, inserting thread between the ring and his finger (which is supposed to do the trick) - but nothing worked and they had to cut it off :( It did not hurt him when they cut it off, and obviously we didn't have to pay for it to be cut off, but unfortunately it could not be fixed. I ended up buying him a new one and gave it to him for Christmas - tried to find the closest thing I could to the original so our bands would still match. It sounds like your finger is just really irritated right now, and the more you fiddle with it, the worse it will get. I would just try leaving it alone for another day or so, and keep ice on it when you can. If nothing improves, I would definitely look into getting it cut. I'm sorry I don't know how much a jeweler would charge to cut it off, but hopefully he will do a better job than my husband's surgeon and will be able to repair it afterwards! Good Luck.

I'm chiming in late so hopefully you've gotten the ring off by now. I was just going to suggest, if you do decide to have it resized, going back to the jeweler where your hubby got the ring. They may resize it for free or at least at a reduced cost. Or for that matter, check them out to have your ring cut off for the same reason (if you haven't gotten it off already).

Before running to the jewelry store, try using yarn. Wrap it around your finger from the ring to the tip fairly tightly. You may then be able to pull off your ring.
