Anyone Do a Yeast Cleanse?

Hey mamas! My sister is in the three week process of a yeast cleanse and even though she's more than half-way through with it she hasn't lost any weight. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

What can I do next?

Hi K.

Cleanses as a rule aren't meant for helping a person lose weight. What they are supposed to do is heal your GI tract so your intestinal villi stand up and plump up and clean the diverticulated pockets of stuff that shouldn't be there and get rid of toxins. People do that prior to losing weight and to break plateaus as when they move forward, their bodies work more efficiently.
They also are meant to replenish the system with proper bacteria and overgrow bad ones. Yeast can actually change ones system to swing one way unless it's mixed with others.
If she's on a weight management program, she'll feel more energized when she's done with the cleansing and be able to break her plateau.

My grandmother is actually on a no yeast diet. She's been asthmatic since childhood and a few years ago was put on an asthma med...round, purple disk inhaler thing. The weird cough she developed sounded horrible. My mom really thought she was dying! Mom found an environmental allergist and took my grandmother in to see him. She had a yeast infection in her lungs! He tested her (this was pretty in depth testing...not like what family members in the past have had) and she has an allergy to yeast. It is really all cut out of her diet now. No breads (carbs).
Yes, the yeast lives off the sugars in your body. Fruits and veggies do make sugar so she has to be careful with that also. She can have some though. I can't remember which fruits are best though. I know she does eat cauliflower adn broccoli. Carrots are a big no-no. they produce alot of sugar. She also doesn't drink any alcohol. She might have a small drink or have a small cookie or taste of cake if it's a special occasion though. She does end up coughing quite a bit though.
It's a hard diet to handle but she said she's feels a ton better~and when she's out in public she doesn't have to explain to people in restaurants that she isn't contagious!

Never heard of this til now! From what I've read, some people take longer than others depending on how abundant the candida is in the intestines. According to the link below, the average diet needs to be a minimum of three months to five months to see results.

You don't detail what she's doing exactly, but there are many things that need to be done besides avoiding sugars and other foods that feed and promote yeast growth in the body.

if your body has a problem with yeast, i know for sure one thing: DO NOT EAT SUGARS. no soda, no candy, no cakes, NO SUGARS. yeast lives off sugars. this is also true with kids with multiple ear infections; the yeast in their ears lives off the sugars they ingest....

i would imagine that this is confusing also with fruits. i hope someone else knows, but i cant see the point in eliminating fruits, they are good sugars after all, but maybe eat less of them and more veggies?

good luck to her.

I did a 30 day yeast cleanse with Dr Hotze's book Hormones, Health, and Happiness. It has some great recipes and great advice for overall health. I lost 30lbs in 30 days, starting from day 1. It wasn't easy, but I followed it exactly I felt better than I ever had.
