Anybody Buy Lunchables for Their Kids?

My son is just begging me to buy him Lunchables for lunch. His friends eat them.
They have different varieties...pizza, chicken nuggets, mini hot dogs, etc.

Do these lunchables need to be warmed up? I can't imagine eating cold pizza and hot dogs.

Thanks,
N.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for responding. His school's summer program begins on monday so I thought I would buy him a couple of these. I'm sure he'll love it even with the high sodium content. I am not planning on giving these to him everyday, just as a treat!!!

Ahhh peer pressure strikes so young as one strives to be at home in a community!

My son used to beg for lunchables too.
Its a small portion of food. Watch what beverages are included in any you buy (I dont even know if they still come with beverages), if you have an restrictions of sugar/color additives.

I abhored buying those things. I couldnt recycle the packaging either, by the way. He was allowed one, every month or so.

If he's the kind to be diplomatic,
explain, perhaps, that maybe the other parents
are not able to make their kids meals,
like his mom can. Everyone is not so fortunate as a boy
who has a HOMEMADE lunch. (this worked with daughter, but not with son)

Perhaps it could be a "treat" lunch for special occasions.
His appetite will probably outgrow his desire to eat them.

good luck!

Yes I have bought them for my kids (maybe three times) but try not to, they are really not healthy. Especially at 6 yrs old, they need fruits and milk and cheese so much at that age. A god pb & j is a good lunch especially because it needs no refrigeration...just make sure he is not allergic to peanuts> :)

Keep in mind they are not very nutritious (most are high in sodium) but I indulge my son every now and again. From what I understand, they do not need to be heated. The only one that concerned me was the chicken nuggets but upon reveiwing the box, I found where it said it was pre-cooked. It may not seem very appetizing to an adult but apparently it doesn't phase our children to eat this stuff cold. I suggest letting your children try this at home before packing it in thier lunch so you can get an honest look at how they feel about eating it cold.

I don't buy lunchables. for 2 reasons. 1. too expensive. 2. too much packaging.

I think some need to be heated up some don't. My daughter will eat anything cold. so I think eating cold hotdogs or pizza depends on the child.

My daughter starts preschool next week. So I have not have her experience any peer pressure yet. But I hope she has some in regards to potty training. IF she sees other kids going on the potty maybe she will go.

As a teacher, I see children bringing these for lunch - thankfully not as often as in the past! Yes, the sodium is really high and there are lot's of other ways to make a special lunch for school. One idea might be to allow him to take them for lunch when there is a field trip - that way it doesn't happen very often, is special and when lunch is over it all goes in the trash so you don't need to worry about a lost lunch box ! Also, you'd be surprised at how many of the children eat the stuff - even the pizza cold and don't give it a second thought - that's children for you! Good Luck!

You do not need to heat up the items you mentioned, however the amount of sodium (particularly in the lunchmeat options) is insanely high! I would make it more of a treat rather than an everyday option because of how unhealthy they are.
