My family has had to cancel our first "family vacation" with our 25 month old to Galveston this week since Tropical Storm Eduardo is planning on hitting there on Tuesday. We have already taken this week off of work and are anxious to get out of town. Any quick ideas of where we could travel within 5-8 hours driving distance that would be fun for a toddler, too??? Thanks!

San Antonio is always a nice choice. You have plenty of choices there. The river walk, Fiesta Texas, or Sea World.

C.,
Try San Antonio - Sea World & Fiesta Texas are there, or New Braunfels - Schlitterbahn and the family can go tubing down the Guadalupe. Also, on the north side you could try Turner Falls in Oklahoma.

Go on to Galveston! The storm is not too bad, and the rain is only supposed to be there today! Go enjoy the beach, if nothing else at least there will be a few extra waves to play in.

Our family just spent a long weekend in Fort Worth. I have a nine year old and a one year old. We spent the day at the zoo, another at the botanical gardens and the art museums. Since we didn't spend a lot of money on gas, we were able to splurge on our hotel and stayed at the Embassy Suites downtown.

Fossil Rim in Glen Rose has a wildlife drive through where you can feed the animals. The Emu's and Ostridges can be a little aggressive so keep your windows up when you drive past them. But, if you are fortunate the giraffe's will stick their heads in your car to eat. My kids were a little older when we went and they loved it. There is also a petting zoo half way through.

Hello C.,
We just got back from the Lost Pines Hyatt right outside of Austin. It's a fabulous place for families. I highly recommend this resort and it only took us 4 1/2 hours to get there. Good luck. Hope you have a great time!!!
