Any One with Potty Training Tips??

Its been a while since I potty trained my 5 yr old son...but you could try to give her a treat(like yogurt covered raisins) & only give them to her as a reward for using her potty chair.

Does she want to wear big girl panties? If so, she might be ready. If you are worried about messes from "accidents" try getting some training panties that are a thick cloth and/or vinyl training pants (I got some for my little guy at Target that were cloth inside). As for rewards, stickers worked well for my boys. Stay positive about getting her onto the potty, and celebrate the successful potty times. Good luck!!

20 months is not too young. my daughter is 22 months and started when she was about 17 months. Don't buy diapers anymore buy pull-ups. I say Pull-ups (Huggie) because they have a velcro strip on the sides for easier clean if they have an accident. Also if she is in school they wont continue your efforts with out pull ups. And she wont be able to take those off so easy Take her like every 45 min -to an hour. She will get used to it and start asking you to take her constantly. Also be excited when she goes they like that.

There are a few things I did with my daughter. Sometimes I would sit her on the potty when I went to the bathroom. We made up potty songs (just anything exciting about going tee-tee), and as bad as this may have been then, I would put her on the potty in front of the t.v. while her favorite cartoons were on. Before we knew it she had used it with no drama!! When she finally went, I called a few people and let her hear the thrill in my voice and that attention she received kept her going. Be patient with her and try not to punish or discourage her if she has an accident. Good luck.

20 Months could be a little young for some children, but just right for others. I always reward my little ones when they start "going" on the potty. Usually with an M&M or a Smartee (just one though). Cheer, make it a big deal for her.

As far as the diaper thing goes, the only advice I'd be able to give you is to tell her no, swat her little hand, and put the diaper back on. If you continue to do that, and you stay consistent then she'll eventually figure it out. (My youngest daughter went through this with her clothes) Good Luck and God Bless!!!!

I would say she's too young. I'm sure some kiddos do learn early, but the general rule is when they are waking up dry, it's time to potty train. Also, when they tell you they're needing a diaper change, it's time to start. I think the average age is 2-2 1/2 and don't dicount the difference a few short months makes in a toddlers development. It really can be huge!

If you ARE going to potty train her at this time, you want to just put her in panties and let her go. When she feels what WET feels like it, it will quickly become a deterrant to accidents.

I saw on Dr. Phil once that you should take them to the potty and let them try every 30 minutes. Then, when they do have a little tinkle, make a HUGE deal of it - celebrate, shout, clap, smile, etc. They will soon do it the right way just to get the praise. That method did work very well with my two girls.

She may not be too young to get her some pull up "real panties",big girl training pants, explaining that she must keep her big girl panties clean which means using the potty. Sounds as if she is probably ready for potty training because she is removing her diaper. Usually there is no set age for training (despite what the experts tell you), every child is different and ready at different times (of course, you wouldn't want a five year old still in diapers!) This will soon pass and you will go on to other toddler issues. Just relax and let your daughter's personality dictate the time table. I don't know of any child, personally, that didn't get through this just fine.

I just now am getting my 3 1/2 yr. old son potty trained, but I have found that potty training my daughter who is now 8 was much easier. I started potty training my daughter when she was about 20 months old as well. By the time she was 22 mths she was completely potty trained. A friend told me to put the potty chair in whatever room we were in, if we were watching a movie in the living room, the potty chair was by the couch.So we did, and I put panties on her,forget the pullups, too expensive, and they feel like a diaper, so they wet them. Eventually she got the idea after us reminding her to use the potty if she had to. I kept her in panties all day and a diaper at night, the minute we woke up, she was on the potty and back in panties. One thing my ex-husband would never do , was get up with her in the middle of the night to take her to the potty. I did, and after about a week of that and limiting drinks at night, she was good to go. We had a few accidents once in a blue moon, but I'm not sure it wasn't divorce related. I read what someone esle wrote about using duct tape, I had to do that with my friends little girl. I watched her for a few months, and her husband did the same thing,she would pull her diaper off during nap time, and it was a nasty mess. I didn't have to do that, my daughter wanted to take her diaper off alot too, so I resorted to cute lacy monogrammed panties.
