Any Ideas for Telling Husband What Gender We Are Having?

We have 4 beautiful daughters and are expecting a baby in June. The ultrasound is MOnday. We are really hoping for a boy because this will be our last one. Of course we would love another girl too. My husband won't be able to go to the ultrasound with me. I am trying to come up with a creative idea of how to tell him what gender we are having once I find out. I really don't want to tell him over the phone. I won't drive down to his work because it is too far and too scary for me. (It is over an hour away on the freeway and I get too scared driving on the freeway). Any creative ideas of how to tell him would greatly be appreciated!!!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all of your ideas. He ended up working from home because of weather and such. IT'S A BOY!!! When the ultrasound technician said it was a boy, I asked "are you sure?" It is definitely a boy. I cried and so did she. I stopped at Walmart on the way home and bought 3 little boy outfits, a teeball and mitt and a yellow sack to put them in. I covered them up with tissue paper. I took them home to him and told him that what was inside would tell him what it was. He saw the mitt first and looked up at me and said,"it's a boy?" I nodded and he got a big smile on his face. We are so excited. Yay, we are finally having a boy after 4 girls. :)

I would just telling that the ultrasound went fine. and drop little hints like you can pick up that bat and ball on the way home if it is going to be a boy. if it is a girl, tell him he is going to be the proudest papa at all the events they will bring. They will be the twinkle in his eyes.
Good Luck!

I had a cousin tell everyone what she was having by buying an out fit in the appropriate color and wrapping it in a present. Then she let everyone take a guess what it would be, and then she unwrapped the present and showed everyone what she had gotten, and thus what she was going to have.

After 3 darling boys (who prayed constantly for a "baby sister") my husband and I got the ultrasound results--a little girl! So we had a "Pink Party" ready for the boys when they arrived home from school. The living room and kitchen were strung with pink streamers with a pink dress hanging in the entry, a pink balloon tied to each chair at the table set with pink plates, napkins and cups and pink gum next to each, ready for donuts with a pink candle in each. Of course, we had the cameras ready when they returned and it was a HUGE hit! You could do the same in blue for a boy!

You could buy a little gender specific gift and wrap it in generic wrapping paper and he could open it when he gets home from work.

My brother inlaw could not be at ther ultrasound so my sister inlaw had the person doing the ultrasound right down the gender on a peice of paper and they looked at it together that night. It was a great surprize for both. Congragulations on your upcoming bundle of joy. We are exspecting twins in July and are very excited to find out the sex.

How about sending him a balloon gram to his work and have the balloons either be pink or blue! Or you could have a nice dinner ready for him and get some fancy "country china" (paper plates from the Dollar Tree) in baby blue or pink to set the table with? See if he can figure it out!

Hi M.
Congratulations on #5. What I did (cause my husband couldn't be there either.) I bought a card For Daddy and signed it from your Daughter. I gave it to him at dinner. He was so happy that to this day he still carries the card with him in his truck (he's an over the road truck driver) and my daughter is now 17 months.
Good luck

I am also pregnant with a baby due in June and my husband wasn't able to come with me to the ultrasound either. The ultrasound tech gave me this idea. I didn't look at the ultrasound (so I found out the same time my husband did). The ultrasound tech printed off several labelled pictures (labelling is important, I don't know what I'm looking at in those things) and put them in an envelope, sealed and signed it. I brought the envelope home and we opened it up together and found out together! It was a lot of fun. How and when you open the envelope is up to you, but at least this way you can still find out together! Congratulations and good luck!

I was trying to think how would I like to get the news...I do like the envelope and wait until he gets home... however I would not wait. I know myself too well.
So, then I was trying to think what would be fun is if it is a boy send him a dozen tools. little things like wrenches and screwdrivers... oooh or even the baloons with a tool as the weight...
I am sure your local flourist can help you out... or even a person in his office. Do you know anyone in his office that you could call and ask them to help you?
If is a girl... I think I would have someone deliver something "girly" like flowers and chocolate... he is going good luck let us all know

Once you find out you could cook a dinner with foods colored red or pink or blue and set out either pink or blue napkins. Or you could wait until dessert and have a cake decorated saying what it is? With my second (a girl) I took a picture of my son in a shirt that said "I'm the big brother." You could put your girls in these shirts and have them hold colored balloons. I think you can buy them at any hospital gift shop. Good luck!

Congrats on your baby! When you find out, go and get some decorations in the appropriate color. Decorate the nursery and when he comes home tell him you need his opinion on something (they always like that). Take him to the nursery and see how long it takes him to catch on. Don't use anything with words, just colors.

My hubby is one of 5 boys, so when we found out that our first born was a girl he thought of a clever way to tell his mom. He told her "I just found out that I can do something that dad can't." "What's that", she said. He responds "produce female offspring!" She could barely contain herself. It was super cute.

Just some ideas. Let us know how it goes!

My friends did this and I think it's a really good idea. Instead of having the doctor tell you what gender it is, have them write it on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope. Plan a special meal or special time that evening when your hubby is home from work and open the envelope together. If you have the patience to wait until you are both together, it will be that much more special and include your husband in that special moment. Plus, who wants to find out what they are having in the cold sterility of an exam room? Granted, it will take a lot of self-control on your part, but it will be something that you will both share forever.

A fun creative thing my girlfriend did.... she bought a jersey shirt ( at good ol walmart )in the color of the babys sex...(blue)and made the number out of masking tape for the back and front ( it was her 6th child so it was the number 6! She wore it when he got home and didnt say anything until he did...I think she also cut his name out in tape for the name on the back of the jersey.

You could have the ultrasonographer print off the ultrasound picture that reveals the sex. Then place it in a box with one of those candy gum cigars that says "it's a boy or it's a girl", wrap it, and have it sitting next to a beautiful dinner, specially prepared for him when he gets home from work.

Congrats on your new baby. It would be nice to have a boy with 4 girls but hope the baby is healthy regardless of the sex. If you want it public, you could send a balloon or flower bouquet in either pink or blue depending on the sex to his office. If not, you could wait to you sit down for dinner then give him a pink or blue blanket instead of a napkin.
Hope all goes well.

If you are into crafty stuff you could make a scrapbook page with the ultrasound picture and then baby things like rattles, etc and use the pink or blue for background and decorations. Or You could get a little onsie/romper in plain white and either do a pink or blue handprint or write on it "little sister" or "little brother" or "daddy's little girl" etc... and wrap it up like a gift and give it to him.

For a girl--watch Pride and Predjudice or Fiddler on the roof (both have 5 daughters), order candy from fivesisters.net (that may take longer than you have)
For a boy--put little boy shoes inside or next to his in the morning, or a football or whatever "manliness" he is into...
Make and frame a picture "Five little ducks went out to play" with baby duckies in all pink or make the last one blue.

it may be too late now, if your ultrasound was today, but you can take a pair of blue and pink socks/booties to the ultrasound and NOT find out yourself and then have the doctor put one pair in a box and toss our the other pair (or keep til your next appt) and then you can open the box together when you get home. . . or take two boxes label one "not" and the other "is" and then open it together when you get home. . . so you're both surprised and finding out at the same time!

You could try dressing all your girls in the same color, pink if another girl, or blue for a boy. If you want it to be more for just the 2 of you, you could wrap a gift with an outfit for a boy, or girl, and give it to him in a room with just the 2 of you. Some other ideas.... get some balloons that are the color for which ever gender, make a card 'signed' by your son/daughter saying they can't wait to meet him, and everyone, send him an email card saying congratulations & put the sex of the baby.

Well hope some of the ideas help, and congratulations on what ever you have!!

Best of luck,

My sister did this, you could go get some blank plain bibbs and take crafters writing paint and put an inscription that says I'm the big sister of a new little sister or brother. Have your girls wear them when you sit down to dinner that night. It took her husband and inlaws a few minutes and realized what my nephew was wearing and were really excited.

All the other ideas were great too:) Have fun choosing and congrats!
