Any Good Home Remedies for Mommy and Baby with a Cold

My 6 month old DD and I have both came down with a bad cold. I have a humidifier in her room, and her crib mattress is propped up. I have been giving her Tylenol and doing the saline and bulb syringe for the nose. For my self I am just taking Tylenol. Any advice on how to get through this any quicker???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well we made it through. I took Tylenol cold and got rid of my cold a lot quicker then dd. She had a horrible runny nose for a few days. She still is somewhat congested but the humidifier and saline/breastmilk in the nose really does help. She is back to sleeping through the night and so am I. Thank you for all the advice and support on our first illness as a mother and daughter.

My 9 month old has a cold, and we are getting fast results with a warm vaporizer, I researched and found that they are generally better. The heat makes for no bacteria in the air. And also propped the mattress up and use the bulb syringe and went to the health food store and got echinachea drops and a cold tea that has elder berry and peppermint. Haven't used the tea yet, but the rest is working very well. Good luck.

Saline drops, suck the stuff out really well, put her to sleep in a car seet (this really helps), use wix on chest and feet (both of you). Also drink tea with honey and lemon (no honey for the baby) you can give her tea with sugar and lemon.... also for you - eat garlic cloves....

Hi K.,
There is a great homeopathic treatment called Engystol that you could look into. I started taking it 2 years ago whenever I felt a cold coming on and have managed to ward off most viruses. Also, adding a couple drops of eucalyptus oil in the steam bath and some ginger tea has always cleared up my nose enough to get a little sleep. Good luck and feel better!!

You could also try using Breathe Right strips at night to help you breathe. Vicks vapo rub and baby vicks for the baby. You can also try doing a sinus rinse for you. You can buy the kits at Jewel. It is just basically a volume warm saline rinse that you use and squirt it up in your sinuses and cleans out what is in there and comes out the other side. It is a little weird at first but it really does help alot....at least temporarily.

You can also use a nasal spray for congestion that has a little medication in it. Since you apply it locally not enough of it gets into your blood stream to effect your milk.

Good luck!

What we usually do is sit in the bathroom with the shower running on hot. The steam helps clean out the congestion. It is easiest if your daughter is in her car seat so there is no danger of her touching the hot water. We do it right before bedtime and a couple of times during the day.
I hope you both feel better soon.

Hi K.,

I would try MonaVie for you and your daughter's cold. MonaVie is a nutritional beverage made from 19 different fruits, with the acai berry as its main fruit. It's pretty amazing and is helping lots of people with various issues.

I have had four different people tell me that they took it for their colds (drank a bottle over the course of a couple of days) and they felt much better! I also drink more of the juice when I feel a cold coming on.

I'm not sure how much you would want to drink, since you are breastfeeding. But, your daughter would also benefit greatly. A mom also shared that her baby started sleeping better when she started drinking MonaVie.

I hope you both feel better soon!

Blessings on your day,

C. :)
