Moms, please help pick some games for a baby shower I am helping to plan. It is ladies only, moms and singles. Were there any games played at your shower that you enjoyed. I always hear about the awful ones but nobody has ever claimed to love any. Can you help?

Baby bingo is lots of fun. I made my own bingo board on the computer and then printed on pink and yellow paper. We did it at my sisters baby shower and everyone was very competitive and laughing about it. You have everyone fill out the board with what they think she is going to get blanket, bottles etc before she opens the gifts then have prizes for some of the people that get bingo first. I think we did 6.

Here is a simple one that even those how don't like games will likely take part in and if they don't it won't be noticed. Everyone gets a diaper pin (they can be decorated with charms or ribbons, if you like). If you hear someone say the word "Baby" than you get to take their pin. Who ever has the most pins at the end of the shower wins the prize.

It seems you have a lot of responses here, but I will throw in my two cents.

None.

There have never been any shower games that I enjoyed. I found they were often an interruption to conversations I was having, people I was meeting, or old friends I was catching up with. I do not believe you need to force adults to play childish games in order for them to enjoy themselves. You would not have these silly games at any other gathering, why do it for a baby shower?

Good luck.

We played a fun one that lasted the whole shower. Everyone was given a "necklace" with a little plastic pacifier on it. The object was to end up with the most necklaces. You could take someone necklace if you made them say, or heard them say "baby". It was really funny! Good luck and have fun!

Someone mentioned tasting baby food to guess what it is, but I think that's kinda gross. I'm not about to taste that stuff! I've played it where you pass around the jar after the labels have been taken off, and you have to guess what kind of baby food is in the jar. That's fun, and I was good at it. :) Also, the don't say the word "baby" game is a lot of fun, and you play it through out the shower. It's best to be played with the plastic binky on a string worn around the neck. That way it's easy to see it to take it away. The pins are hard to spot because they can be hidden.

A couple of things that were different at the last shower I went to was that everyone was asked to bring diapers, and if you did your name went into a drawing for a special gift. This particular shower had a huge gift for that, but I think it could be small, and still be nice. And the other thing was while mom to be was opening gifts a timer was set. Each time it went off the person who's gift it was got a prize herself. That was an interesting "game". I had never heard of that being done before. Also there was a stage 3 baby food jar filled with safety pins and everyone wrote down their guess, and the one closest to the right number got a prize. Another game I have seen and loved is having several baby items layed out on a tray, but put together in a way so that it might not be so easy to see them all. The guests are given about 30 seconds to look at the items. Then it's taken away, and they write down what they can remember. The one with the most gets a prize, and at the end of the shower mom to be gets the tray with the items. You would put small things on it like a couple of safty pins instead of the whole package, and a couple of q-tips, not the pack. Hard to spot them, but someone always does! This could also be done with a diaper bag. You can pass the bag around so everyone sees what's in it, or have someone take out each item, announce it, and then put them all back in to see who remembers. You have about 1 minute to write all your answers.

This should be fun planning it all! Good luck!!

At my shower, my friend made up 5 questions and wrote on cards (decorated construction paper per guest) and everyone answered them and then my friend gave them to me in a swcarpbook. Questions like: what advice do u have for married couple? How did they meet? What is her pet's name?
It was fun and had everyone talking - I can still look at the answers and laugh today!

Give everyone a blank bingo board. They fill in the squares with gifts they think the mom-to-be will get. As she opens, they mark off their bingo boards. Whoever gets bingo gets a prize!

At my show ,there was a game called "Itty Bitty Baby Parts" Every one gets a answer card and there are pictures of ultrasounds, and everyone has to guess which ultrasound is which baby part. It is hilarious. The things people see in an ultra sound. -My husband and mother in-law found it on a website called babyshowerstuff.com. It was the best game.

Here are 2 baby shower games I've played:

1) Baby Bingo, based on the gifts that the mother-to-be will open.

2) Guess that Baby Food -- each person gets a paper plate, with a small teaspoon of different baby foods. The person who can correctly guess the identity of each food (not easy) wins.

Here's a game I played at a wedding shower: Bride Trivia. You can change it to pertain to the Mother-to-Be. Numerous questions are devised that describe the mother. The person who guesses the most correct answers about the mother wins. For example, What is her favorite color? Who was her high school crush? Who is her favorite celebrity? What is her middle name? Etc.

WOW! There are a lot of great responses here! One I didn't see that is fun is bubble gum babies. each guest gets a piece of gum (chunks, not sticks). They have to try to make it into a baby any way they can. It was so much fun to see them all at the end. Some people are very good at it, others are not! The mom to be picks her favorite as the winner.
I also really liked the scrapbook page idea someone posted. If the mom to be likes that kind of stuff, that's perfect! I wish I had seen some of these ideas before I had planned showers!

Baby item bingo was a pretty good one. (Everyone given a blank bingo card, and have to fill a baby item in every box. As Mom opens gifts, they cover the item on their card. First one to yell bingo wins...) I also went to one recently with baby items scrambled, and EACH TABLE had to figure out the word (breastfeeding was a KILLER... :-) ).

These are not so much games, but I was very greatful for both:
1) I was given an 'advise book', filled wih hand written advise from each of my guests. Some were standard "sleep when the baby sleeps" others were funny "when you introduce cheerioes, expect 'sandy' diapers". Each guest was told to come prepared with at least one piece of advise, that way even the guests without children could ask around for a good tip.

2) I was also given envelopes that were addressed to each guest and w/ stamps...you need to send lots of Thank Yous, so this was a big help since I worked full time until the baby arrived almost 3 weeks early.

Hope this helps!

I threw a shower for my Sister In Law. We didnt play any games, but we did a have a raffle. I bought some dunkin donut gift cards ($5 each), lotto scratch offs, small trinkets, and the grand prize was the floral centerpiece.
Everybody who brought a package of diapers and/or wipes in addition to their gift received a raffle ticket for each item they brought. (There was a note in the invitation regarding the raffle)
My SIL ended up with tons of diapers and wipes, and it was a fun little thing for the guests.

Bingo is always a big hit--someone explained it in an earlier response.

We also play a game where everyone is given a piece of string or ribbon and are instructed to cut it to the size they think will go around new mommy's belly. So funny to see what everyone thinks.

We also always have a lot of little "prizes" that don't have to be expensive but everyone loves to win one. Michael's has a lot of inexpensive items that will work, many for $1.

Have fun!

I can say that having been pregnant at some of my friend's showers, the baby food game and the poop diaper game almost made me loose my food. I'm sure they're fun but I was already nauseous and my sense of smell was super sensitive so those types of activities were tough. Ones that I have enjoyed were:
1. Baby bingo (based on items on the registry)
2. Whose features... Mom was asked the questions ahead of time like whose eyes do you hope the baby gets (mom's or dad's), whose temperament, whose intellect, whose feet, etc. It was so sweet to see who chose what and why and eventually why the mom felt the way she did. My friend said that she wanted the baby to have her husband's eyes as they were the feature she loved the most about him and she wanted to be able to look into the baby's eyes everyday and see her husband.
3. A third one that was fun was everyone was asked to bring/send ahead of time a baby picture of themselves (to be returned at the end of the shower). They were posted on a board and everyone had to go around the room and figure out which person matched with which baby (write it down on paper). Some of them were super easy but others were so difficult. There were about 25 names and pictures and in our group, only one answer got the most.
4. One more fun one was nursery rhymes. You were given a piece of paper and parts of nursery rhymes were read outloud and you had to write down the missing words. There are some obscure nursery rhymes out there so it was interesting to see what people know and what people made up. An easy example would be 'Hickory, dickory, dock, the mouse ran .....' Fill in the rest of the line' I noticed that the grandmas did best and the moms of kids around 3-5 did really well too but some of the single gals either remember these from their childhood or have shared them with cousins and nieces and nephews.

Good luck. There are tons of cute game ideas that others have posted that look fun!

Hi, I don't have any games to add but the last baby shower invite I received requested a copy of your favorite children's book. Everyone brought one unwrapped and displayed them on the gift table. This new baby got a great collection of books to start out with. Good luck.

take beads- pretty ones- and have everyone string one on while saying a wish for the new baby- the idea is that the mother wears it for the delivery. I always loved that one.

I just went to a baby shower last week and we played the game of who can drink the baby bottle the fastest. There were 8 or so of us, and 4 oz bottles filled with watered down orange juice. The one who finishes first gets a prize. It was very silly and got people laughing. Try that one!

Hi, We played the following group interactive game at my sister-in-law's shower.

Each table received a sheet of scrapbooking baby themed paper with strips of colorful paper (one strip of paper for each letter of the baby's name if you know it, if not, you can give one strip of paper for each letter of the baby's last name) & stickers. I picked up the material at AC Moore. You will also need glue.

Then each table gets creative by writing down what they Wish for the baby next to each letter, for example if the letter G is in the name - God's blessings. They also got creative by placing the stickers on the sheet of paper. The ladies loved playing it together. We gave each table about 10 minutes to complete it. Once completed, the Mommy-to-be read over each one and decided which one she liked the best. The table that won, we gave all that participated a $1 lottery scratch off as a prize.

We bought the Mommy to Be a scrapbooking album that she can place each sheet. Also, we had each guest write their names on the back of the sheet so she can remember who wrote on that sheet years down the road.

Good luck!

There's one game where there is a list of animals and you had to figure out all the "baby" names of the animals for example Cow and calf. Whoever got the most correct wins.

At my baby shower my friend(s) distributed cake plates and pens to each peron. Everyone was told to place the plate on top of their head and then they were instructed to take the pen and draw a picture of a baby on the plate that was on top of their head. The person that came closest to resemebling a baby wins. I think there was a time limit of 1 minute....

The only time I've enjoyed a shower game (bridal shower) was a variation of bingo where, instead of just the standard description of the item, it was based on what the bride said. So if you could get her to say that two champagne flutes could be used for "toasting" you could claim "toaster." It was more fun than usual, because everyone was trying to get the bride to describe each item in a way that worked for them, sometimes really stretching the point. Of course, there was alcohol at that shower, so that probably helped.

You certainly have a lot of great responses. The one I liked best at my baby shower was the string/yarn game - where each person guesses how much yarn/string would fit around the mom-to-be's belly. I enjoyed that one - it's amazing how close (and far off!) some people were.

I didn't have a traditional baby shower but rather a mother blessing party. I asked women who were mothers to share a positive memory from their births and then to share a "bad" mom story, because we aren't perfect and never will be the. The first part was incredibly moving and the second part was very funny. Everybody said how much they appreciated it and how memorable it was.

We played two games at one of my baby showers that everyone seemed to enjoy. The first someone already mentioned was match the baby animal name to the adult animal name. The other, which was even more popular was match the celebrity child's name to the celebrity couple. It was fun since so many celebrities pick strange or unusual names for their kids.

As founder of Maternal Dance/Rhythm For Life I have been working with expectant moms for years. My program has been featured on Discovery Health, NY1 NEWS and most recently I was interviewed for an article in the September issue of SELF Magazine.

I am currently restructuring my website, though you can still view what it's all about. I also have a DVD out now called RHYTHM FOR LIFE - The Prenatal Belly Dance Workout. This makes a great baby shower gift and is included as part of my BELLY DANCE BABY SHOWER package.

If this sounds of interest to you, go to my website and check it out, also see Mamsource profile. As new information will be on my new site, I will be happy to send you more details about the party. Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Don't have a game suggestion (sorry!), but one thing I absolutely LOVED about my shower was that in addition to the regular gifts, everyone bought a book for the baby and the hosts bought a pretty wooden box to store them in.

Oh wait - maybe you can make a game based on that - perhaps a game where you list quotes from popular baby books (i.e. "I would not eat them in a box, I would not eat them with a fox" - Green Eggs & Ham), and have people match it with the titles. Prizes of course for who gets the most. You'll probably need some "tie-breaker" questions. This game would probably work best though if most the guests are moms - singles probably wouldn't fare as well, but you never know!
