Any Advice on Medical Insurance?

I'm actually looking for my mother in law. She's an independent housekeeper so is very self employed. She's relatively healthy generally speaking but she's been under the weather now for two weeks. She really needs to see a doctor but doesn't know where to begin without insurance.

Any suggestions on how to get her coverage? Can my husband cover her? Are there good clinics that she could go to without insurance? Is there an insurance company worth working with being self employed?

Thanks for any input! Or where to start looking on my own!

She might think about visiting one of the medical clinics like CareNow as a private pay patient. If you call around, there are also family doctors that will take uninsured patients. That way she can get to feeling better, since applying for insurance will take weeks or longer. There may also be some programs thru JPS Health Network if she lives in Tarrant county.

If she's not old enough for Medicare to kick in, then she can apply for an individual policy with a range of companies like Aetna, BCBS, Unicare, etc. Many of their websites allow you to get online quotes. This website was also helpful, and the staff answered my questions by email...

I use Unicare for my daughter & I. It was just too much to go under my husbands ____@____.com's about $170.00/per month for my 18 month old & I on a "individual policy". I've heard lots of other people claiming Unicare to be about the most reasonable for individual plans.
