Yes, Yes, and Yes. I have been taking antidepressants for several years. I have gained weight. I am humgry all the time. I am now on and off Weight Watchers. I lost 15 lbs. and need to loose another 15 or so. If I didn't take the antidepressants I would be skinny and my family would be very unhappy. Good luck to you. Just weigh the benefits and risks.

Hi C., saw your question. I haven't experienced those side effects in the past but others that were problems. Have you ever tried Natural Balancing Creams? Try Arbonne's Phytoprolief or Prolief cream. Investigate it online at arbonne.com. They also offer information from sources regarding the benefits of using these natural alternatives. It has helped myself and several of my friends which introduced me to it. Several backings from physicians that are users. They also have safe products for weight loss and cravings. My husband and I do al lot of research on healthy foods/supplements. I hope this helps or gives you another alternative.

I took anti-depressants for 10 months. I was so busy itching that I didn't notice the scale. When I found that four Shaklee B-Complex would do the same thing the antidepressant did and WITHOUT the side effects I switched. To this very day, if I were banished to an dessert island, B-Complex is the first thing I would take with me.

Hey C., yes, I experienced some weight gain when I was on Celexa. From what I understand, it's a fairly common side effect.

My advice is to not deny yourself what you are craving, just don't overindulge. "Everything in moderation..." right?

I gained 10 pounds in 1 month while on Paxil. My doctor and I decided I would stop taking it and try something else. I know that particular medication slows your metabolism down which can frequently lead to weight gain. I have been on many others (Prozac, Effexor, Zoloft, Celexa - just to name a few) and Paxil was the only one I gained weight on. I would check with your doctor to see if that is a typcial side effect from the one you are taking.

C.,
I have been in your situation. I was on Effexor and gained a lot of weight. Talk to your doctor about it. I have since switched to Wellbutrin and so far so good. We will see. Almost all antidepressants have been linked to weight gain. Wellbutrin has an appetite suppresent in it and no sexual side effects. Again, talk to your doctor.

Hugs

yes! I had to qiut taking them because my wieght gain was so bad. it took awhile to get rid of what the anti depressants did but im much happier now, and less stressed out. its easy to be stressed out and worry all the time about bills, kids etc. just take a hour to yourself everynite and do what you want to do,or go out somewhere a lone and just have C. time to relax. thats what i do and it helps alot. take care, N.

So you are taking anti-depressants? or are thinking about it? It depends on which you take. Some cause weight gain/others assist in losing weight.

Also something else to consider is that eating is a form of coping with depression. People like to pick up other addiction aside from drinking and using drugs, although, it could be an additional one.

I had this problem on just about every antidepressant I tried. You might want to read "The anti-depressant survival guide". You can probably still get it at Amazon.
