Another Lump.... - Warren,MA

In 2007 I had fibroadenoma (sp?) well here it is a few years later I found another breast lump and I am more freaked this time then the previous one and I think it's because my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. I'm going to meet the surgeon on Tuesday and will be having it removed because of where it is it's causing me discomfort and pain when wearing a bra. My ob is pretty sure it's nothing to worry about but of course he can't say or are until a biopse is done. I guess I'm just looking for some kind words from you ladies to help with my nerves until everything has been taken care of. It's got me so stressed.
Thank you all for listening and for anything you have to say

What can I do next?

Saying a prayer for you right now. With a history of fibroadenomas, you're probably just dealing with another one and chances are you'll find more down the road. Nothing anyone can say will take the worry away, especially after your mom was diagnosed in 2009...it's just too real and too close to home. But take a deep breath and be reassured that you found it and it will be out of there in no time at all. Try to think strong positive thoughts and know that you're not alone.

Go get some acupuncture done. Soak in a nice bath with epsom salt and lavender. You are a beautiful woman and no matter what happens you will still be a beautiful and strong woman. You are fierce and nothing will slow you down. You are loved and most important. Breathe.

Ok now, you know that it is better to be safe than sorry. You are gonna worry no matter what anyone says so just try to relax some and do something for yourself.

Hang in there. I will keep you in my thoughts R..

Hi R.,

Try to stay positive. (Yeah, right - easier said than done, I know!) Most of these breast issues are not cancerous but it's still stressful to go through it - the waiting for an appointment, the waiting for a procedure, the waiting for the biopsy results.... It takes its toll on you.

I used to have a lot of fibrocystic breast disease - every self-exam was stressful and painful because all I found were lumps, lumps, lumps. Then every mammogram was a problem because the cysts always showed up as "suspicious" - then I'd have to wait for the radiologist or a 2nd mammogram or a biopsy and even surgery. For one surgery, they couldn't isolate some calcifications and they didn't want to operate before they could put in a tracking wire so they'd know what section to remove. So I spent 2 hours compressed in a mammography machine - compressed for 20 minutes while they developed the film, then they'd adjust the machine for 15 sections and then I'd be compressed for another 20 minutes, and so on. It's so frustrating when you, the woman, are at the mercy of the technology.

So I sympathize and I know how hard it is. I have managed to get rid of everything and my physician is thrilled - even she cannot find any more cysts. So that is behind me now.

I send you good thoughts hoping that your surgery will be quick and that the biopsy will show that this is nothing to be concerned about. Your mom had breast cancer but that doesn't mean that you will - remember that most of us women go through these stressful and frustrating times, but 99% of the time things turn out okay.

Hang in there.

Hi my best friend I lived with had the same thing when she was about 16 years old and when she turned 18 she had another one in the other breast and now she 19 and she thinks that she may have another one she's gotten the others removed ... I just think that once u have them your chances of getting it again are like 99% weird how our bodies work.

I agree with the woman who said caffeine. It's seriously linked to cysts and fibroids and painful breasts. I stopped drinking it and now I do decaf green tea which is still not 100% but I haven't had a problem. Whenever I do chocolate I can feel painful tenderness in my breasts. My hubby drinks coffee and has promised to come off it after finding a cyst himself.

There is a homeopathic/holistic nutritionist name Thea Fournier out in North Andover who has helped me clear up a lot of issue. You might want to give her a call to see if there's anything else related to this.

Hugs to you during this difficult time. Sending good thoughts your way that it's nothing.

I am sure that you are doing the right thing, and it is always important to get these things checked out. I can certainly understand your anxieties, and given your mother's diagnosis, it can be scary to find something there. Just know that you are in good hands, and you are being proactive. I can understand being stressed. Do something you enjoy. I always like to watch movies if I am stressed. In some way, for those two hours, your mind is on something else. I hope everything goes well for you!

quit drinking caffiene and relax that is what caused mine
