Another Jff Question

I wanted to be

- a photographer for nat.geo.soc (highly unlikely)
- a US Marine (did that)
- a horse trainer (might still do that someday, I've done it a bit)
- a teacher (doing that)
- a fighter pilot (never gonna happen, but I still think it would be fun)
- a spy (icky icky icky, the LAST thing in the world I would want to be as an adult)
- a writer (i do do that)
- a time traveler (would if I could)
- immortal (ditto)

I wanted to be a SAHM so badly as a kid and really struggled to find something to major in in college. I chose restaurant management at first because I had worked in them as a teenager. Then after 2 years of realizing that I really didn't like that, I changed my major to elementary education. I worked in the classroom for 5 years and now tutor privately. The way I looked at it was that by learning to be a teacher would help me be a better mom. I think it really has. I am now a SAHM that works very part time. LOVE IT!

I have ALWAYS wanted to be a mother and a wife. That hasn't changed a bit.
But, somewhere in middle school/high school I ALSO wanted to be the first female goalkeeper for the Men's national soccer team. As you know, if you know anything about soccer, that didn't pan out. lol :)

When I was little I wanted to be a police officer. My aunt was a cop and I really looked up to her. Unfortunately I learned in high school that I hate violence in all ways. I literally get sick watching boxing matches, people fight, etc. So I figured there is no way I could fight someone to arrest them, let alone pull a gun and use one. Oh well. I am now an elementary school teacher, the last thing I ever thought I would be as a kid. :)

I wanted to be a baker...I can laugh at that now because I am a very good cook, but I can't bake to save my life

When I was really little I wanted to either be an artist or comedian.
Haha. I am nowhere near either.
Then I had many other picks but the only one I have succeeded in is: be a mom.
My DD wants to be a "baker at Chick-Fil-A". We have some work to do there. Lol. :)

There were many things I wanted to be....a ballerina, singer, actress, teacher, mommy. And as I got older....a lawyer (because I like to argue), vet, nurse, writer, dog breeder, mommy.

The only ones that didn't change were writer and mommy - both of which I LOVE and neither of which I get paid for! LOL

My first career ambition was to play football for the San Francisco 49ers. My mom looked at me funny and asked me if I realized I was a girl.

Next, I wanted to be a corporate lawyer so I could afford a red Porsche 911 and silk dresses.

Then, when I was in high school, someone I respected told me I was a "natural born teacher" so I became a high school history teacher. The funny thing was that every personality/career profile test I ever took said the dead last thing I should have become was a teacher. Pffffffft!

I say my job provides endless challenges, endless joy and it's NEVER boring. So, if you love teenagers, love a particular subject and don't mind reading every day in the paper how awful you are at your job, then teaching is the job for you!

I wanted to be a dentist. I have no clue why.
Other favorites I wanted to be...ice cream truck woman, mom, teacher, race car driver, and a nurse.

As I got older I realized that working in people's nasty mouths isn't for me. No offense to any dentists out there because I still like the profession (and I actually like the smell of a dental office).
I did however work in Physical Therapy (I did a ton of massages!), after that I was a medical instructor at a vocational college, and became a mom. I guess all I have to do is become a race car driver, RN and ice cream truck woman! Mmmmm ice cream!

I was going to be an anthropologist, join the Peace Corps, then write my thesis based on that experience.

Now I work in non-profit management and consulting. And I love it.

I was a nerd. My one year older brother liked computers, and I had to always do whatever he did :-) When we were kids we used to play "computer" like others would play house, or store, or doctor. That wasn't the only reason, but I decided by the time I was 15 that I was going to be a computer programmer. I did end up getting a B.S. and a Masters in computer science and worked in that field for years. I've now been studying psychology for 6 years - something I never would have dreamed of as a kid.

I wanted to be MANY things, among them:

Ichthyologist, veterinarian, marine biologist, entomologist, geriatrician, medical examiner, missionary pilot, children's book author and illustrator, archaeologist, medieval historian, and English professor.

I studied English in college, started out pre-med (dropped it my first year since it turns out I was mostly interested in medical history), minored in history, and now just have a "regular" job. I still love the idea of writing and illustrating children's books and can thankfully pursue other interests through reading.

I wanted to be a firefighter. My Dad and I were out one day and we saw a fire at a warehouse or something. I watched in amazment as the firefighters were working to put out the fire and I looked at my Dad and said "Daddy I want to be a firefighter when I grow up!" My Dad squashed that dream when he said "Oh baby girl! Being a firefighter is only for boys."

I wanted to be a vet when I was in grade school and a graphic artist in H.S. By the time I got to college, I had no idea. I took a career/personality test and it said I should be a teacher, so I did. I absolutely loved it and miss it a lot. I am looking forward to my boys getting old enough that I can go back to it.

I remember I wanted to be a vet, a teacher, a circus performer(the trapeze was my specialty), I also wanted to look like Daisy Duke!! So I did none of those things and thank goodness I am not sporting a Daisy Duke mullet or shorts;) When I got older, like in my teen years, I wanted to travel and see the world, and do some living before settling down. Ultimately that is what I did, I traveled a few places, lived out of the country a few years and married at age 30 :D I still have so many places I want to go, so maybe as the kids are growing up, I can experience those places with them and the hubs ;)

When I was younger I wanted to either be an orthodontist (yuck - I cannot imagine dealing with smelly teens' breath now!) or a physical therapist (but after two summers of interning during high school at a PT clinic, I knew it wasn't for me).

Well, I wanted to be an astronaut psychologist and cover two fields with one stone so to speak. But then I discovered I wasn't that great in math, and chose youth ministry. I actually did go to school for that, taught youth group, children's church, day care preschool. But in the end I'm now a birth doula and studying to be a midwife! Imagine that. LOL

I still use my interest in psychology and love of kids in this field, though!
