We're getting my daughter a twin bed soon (she sleeps on a twin mattress on the floor now).....
I've looked online, in stores, etc but cannot make a decision....here are my options:
1. Keep her on a mattress on the floor (no box spring). Pros: she doesn't fall, out, she and her brother love to jump on the bed and it's the cheapest.
2. Get her a box spring for the mattress so it's makes it more sturdy and leave those on the floor (no bed rails).
3. Get her a frame and box spring (bed rails probably too).**This is my favorite option as I can add to it later with a headboard and other items when she and her brother no longer share a room.
4. Get her a platform or wooden slat bed so I do not need to get her a box spring.
5. Get her a daybed (possibly with trundle)
So obviously these vary hugely in COST. I lay with her every night and tell her stories and say prayers and occasionally in the middle of the night, I will lay with her if she wakes up and has a nightmare.
What are your ideas/thoughts? She is 3.5 and shares her room with her brother who is still in a crib (and then that will convert into a toddler bed). There is not much room in there so I can't do more than a twin and probably couldn't even fit a head/footboard in there without making it really really tight in there.

don't do the day bed and trundle - they are a nightmare to make up each day. Traditional bed spreads don't really fit right on day beds and getting to the back corners to change a fitted sheet is hard! We also have trundles and IMO they are also not worth the effort.... a simple blow up mattress for guests will do just fine and be 100 times easier.
i come from a really big family, so squeezing people into tight spaces is something i learned how to do really young. i say for now, just leave her mattress on the floor, it wont hurt her in the least, and is much safer than having monkeys falling off the bed! when she actually gets her own room, the look, till then, work with what you have.
I would use a bed frame and have a board cut at Lowe's or Home Depot and put it on the frame with mattress on top. I don't know about Lowe's but HOme depot will cut the board for you free. You can buy those plastic containers with lids, or without lids, to put under the bed for toys, etc. if you want, the child can sit on the bed and make it and if they fall out it isn't a major fall. The bed is easy for you to make too. We did that with most of our kids and if you want you can add a headboard too but get one that goes with a lower bed.
I'd get the twin box spring & frame (no headboard yet if space is tight) and rails.
When my son was little we used a day bed without the trundle underneath. It was a great place to store toys or build a fort.
I didn't have a problem with my kids falling out of bed though.
What we've done is just use the twin bed (headboard,footboard, and frame) and turned it into a platform bed by placing some peices of wood across. It just seems too high with the boxspring. We use the bedrails too.
We had a similar situation with our two boys. We kept the mattress on the floor until the younger one was old enough to leave the crib. Then we took everything out and brought in a bunk bed. The love it, though they do miss jumping on the bed. Sometimes we let them jump on our bed just for fun and to let some excess energy out :-)
I happen to love the daybed and trundle- it allows more floor space in the room!
I'd leave her as is for now on a twin floor mattress until you can do everything.
