I got this. The DS XL where the kids can record sounds then manipulate the frequency. Makes me want to get a hammer EVERY time I hear it.

Those dang Zhu Zhu pets drive me up the wall. I took the one my sis bought my daughter apart and took out the battery. I refuse to put it back in. The thing would not shut up even when it wasn't being played with. Other than that, I'm pretty tolerant as long as it's being played with.

An annoying toy is any toy marketed and advertized by children's programming. Battery operated toys are a subset of these. My advice? Don't buy them and you won't be frustrated.

My sister basically outlawed noisy toys for my nephew. Then again, we often wondered if there was a way to take the batteries out of HIM.
I didn't really mind noisy toys, but my son had one firetruck that honked and had a siren and alternated that noise at the least little bump if it wasn't turned off. If he just moved it to get to another toy, there it went.
When the batteries ran down, I just somehow seemed to forget to buy more, silly me.
:)
He had fun playing with it without the noise but I did replace the batteries every now and then. He loved that truck.
He's 15 and still has it.
And yes....it still works perfectly.
I've never smashed a toy, but I think I can relate to the temptation.
Best wihses.

When my granddaughter was little (they lived with us) she left a toy on the back porch near my bedroom window. This thing has a motion dector on it and I'm falling to sleep only to hear 'hi let's play'--kinda creepy.
My son was sitting on the couch relaxing and watching TV and one of his daughter's toys suddenly started talking. She had been asleep for over an hour. He calls them 'from the island of posessed toys' (my 6' 2" son almost jumped out of his skin lol)

i can't stand my toddler's Woody doll (the cowboy from toy story). Whenever we bump into the toy box (which happens to also be our ottoman) he starts yapping away about his damn hat!

The toys that are noisy really don't bother me. The really annoying toys are...toys that end up in the kitchen, in the living room, in the middle of the family room floor, in the dining room, up the steps...etc!! :)
The only irritating toy I've smashed, was accidentally stepping on it when it's not put away. Then the toy becomes irritating because it wasn't put away and because it hurt when I stepped on it, lol!

The worst part about those damn toys is that its never you that buys them so you (well I do anyway) feel guilty about pitching them off a 100 storey building. But yes I hate some of my DD's noisy toys.

When they were younger, my stepsons had the Bop It - God I hated that damn thing! I swear their mom had them take it to our house and keep there on purpose just to drive us crazy!

My son had a thing that was a train with animals in the windows. When you pressed the animals, they would make loud sounds, that to me sounded like they were in pain or ill. We learned to use weak batteries in it to make it not so loud.

My cousin (they have kids...they should know better!) gave us an Elmo doll that had a bottle (not sure of the name) that would say "ba-ba, ba-ba please" and "Elmo go night-night". It was horrible. Why would a company make a toy that doesn't speak correctly? My husband would frequently go to the shooting range with his grandfather, who was a retired police officer. Elmo went with them one day....and never came back. The pictures of "after shooting range Elmo" were so funny!

Yes, I hate them too! I just got rid of a ton of them, and my 18 month old daughter does not seem to miss them. I should have done it years ago when I son was that age. I have never physically assaulted them, but I have loaded them into the pick-up and taken them to the DUMP! Where some other parent I'm sure picks them up and brings them home where they will annoy another family for years to come. My living room is so much nicer for everyone with all that junk gone. I also HATE toys with a million pieces that just get lost. I have started just getting rid of them. The coolest toy ever with no batteries or parts than can get lost is the Perplexus, for kids 4 and older. It's plastic, but it's the coolest!

I'm usually ok with having the toys with sound, but when I'm annoyed at the toy, I take out the stupid batteries. But I actually don't have to many of them. I didn't want to spend money on batteries, so most of my son's toys are ones that don't require ones. Or that are still functional with out the batteries. :D Life is soo much easier.
But the noise I LOATH the most are the zipp noise. I think that makes sense. The ones It's on my son's walking toy that can turn into a ride on toy. It's the "gear shift" and he can pull it back and forth and it makes a zipping noise. I am ready to pull that thing off!!

My brother is 12 years younger than me, and I remember taking apart some of his noisier toys, padding the speaker with cotton, and reassembling. Muffled. Quieter. Happy sister! Now, with three kids under 4, I can't combat the noise without giving them the house and going for a very meandering, tortoise-like excursion to check the mail. (Making sure they are all safe first, of course.) But the noisy toys.... they are easy to tune out at this point.

There were a few noisy toys I hated (all gifts, because I would never buy one myself), but the worst one was Tickle Me Elmo. I HATED IT! Thankfully my kids got bored with it pretty easily and didn't play with it much, so we gave it away to Goodwill as soon as we could. I'm very glad they have outgrown all those toys.

I used to take the batteries out of my son's toys when he was a toddler.
My Aunt still teases me about that. Oh, and so does my son (now 15).
My, oh my! some of them were so annoying - binging, and dinging, and sirens and horns. But I did stop short of smashing them - sometimes they got "misplaced" though. LOL
Now, I am sitting in the kitchen and he is in the adjacent family room playing on the PS3 with the radio on. Hmmm, maybe those toddler toys were not so annoying.
God Bless

We've never smashed any toys but we did do a lot of muting of sound. We would fold up paper towel and place it over the speaker so when it was used it was pretty quiet. We did that with the musical sit-n-spin (which was a hand-me-down gift) and a musical phone and a few others. I'd rather my child have a drum set than a musical sit-n-spin! :-)

Oh, what horrid memories you bring back....YES, those annoying VTech toys when they first came out...the sounds just killed me. But then again I have migraines, most often brought on by light and sound. I also cannot stand those new cards with chips to record or play parts of a song....just hideous.

Elmo!
I *hated* Tickle Me Elmo! Not only was it totally obnoxious, it was also creepy. I don't know if there was faulty wiring or what, but it would start talking when no one was near it and in was standing on a shelf by itself.
Not to mention that pretty much EVERY SINGLE battery operated toy is way too loud. Loud bells, sirens, banging, yelling - I hate 'em all!

My son's saw....it is like the ones you use to trim trees...sounds just like one, only way more annoying!! The 'key turn' start doesn't bother me, but the running.....I have taken it from him many times, and even left it at grandparent's house before. Oops! *evil grin*
Never smashed one, but I have threatened to before.
Oh! And we used to have the musical sit and spin too. I sold it in a garage sale. It is someone else's problem now! :)

When my niece was little I bought her a toy Big Bird that talked. Somehow it reacted to changes in light or movement, so in the middle of the night if you happened to walk past the toy basket, this ultra-creepy voice would float out saying, 'peeeek a booo, I seeee youuuu.'. It sounded like something out of a horror movie. Needless to say my sister has been paying me back since i've had children with gifts of drums, trumpets, battery-operated headaches.

It's really frustrating, isn't it??? :-/
I try to purchase toys that have a volume control, but my guy likes them LOUD, sigh...
I've never smashed one (yet) but I do take them away, put them up high for a while, and give him something else to play with.

sounds like stress levels may be alittle high here. If you have a toy that is annoying; get a new toy and give the annoying one away to someone that is in need or a church or day care facility. There are simple ways to have the toy bring joy somewhere while you restore peace.
