My husband & I just found out we are expecting baby #4. Our other kids are older (7, 9, and 12), so I was looking for a fun way to tell them. They've actually been talking about wanting a little brother or sister, so I'm sure they'll be excited.

Any suggestions of a fun, creative way to announce to them that we're having another? And how about to family?

What can I do next?

Take them out to dinner and arrange beforehand to have the waitress bring out their drinks in baby bottles :)

I have a friend who just gave birth to her third child. When her first was coming she got online (sorry, I'm not sure exactly where) and personalized a template that she could print out and wrap around a Hershey's Chocolate Bar. That is how she and her husband chose to tell their family. It was the cutest thing and everyone loved it. I'm sure if you googled the idea you could find where the template is. Congratulations with your new pregnancy and I hope all goes smoothly. Children are definitely a gift from God.

I'm 23wks with my 3rd. My girls are 8 and 5yrs old. We waited until we went to the OB for my first visit at 8wks. They did an ultrasound and after making sure that everything looked healthy and viable we went home and shared the ultrasound picture with our girls. Sitting on the couch with my girls on each side of me, looking at the picture (that looked like a little bean of course) I asked them if they knew what it was. My 5yr old looked confused said nothing. My 8yr old asked, "Is that a baby?!" I told her yes. 5yr old said, "Aww, a baby." 8yr old asked, "Is that our baby?" I said yes. 8yr old squealed with delight. 5 yr old sat there for a few seconds and then perked up after it sank in and said, "Our baby in your tummy?!" They were SO excited. It was such a sweet, simple moment.

When we first found out we were expecting #1 we mailed my parents a onesie that we had made that said "I love my grandma and grandpa" it was so hard to wait for them to get the package in the mail and call me about it, but it was very exciting!
Maybe something like that for the older siblings, wrap up a box with a little onesie that says something like "I love my brother(s) and sister(s)" or "my older sister/brothers rock!" The 12 year old should understand it and be able to explain to the others, in their excitement.
Or a cake saying we were great as 5 and can't wait to be a family of 6. I'm not good with sayings or creativity haha but Cake is always good with kids. :)

Since Valentine's day is right around the corner, get them all Valentines ... and be sure to include one from the "new brother/sister" for each of them. Do you have an ultrasound picture yet? Mabye include a copy of that too... It would be fun to watch their faces as they read and then realize who the valentine is from : ) Congratulations!!!

Well...how crafty are you? If you're up to it...make your own fortune cookies (there are recipes on line and although I've never done it, seem to be pretty easy??) and then put inside each one I see a baby brother or sister in your future...or something equally corny! When they all get the same one they'll start to figure it out, especially the older one! The cake and t-shirts were also good ideas, but I'm not sure how excited a 9 and 12 y/o would be about wearing it! ;)

When we announced to our family....we told them that we were having a "themed dinner" and part of their job at dinner was to guess what our theme was. Made for a fun dinner conversation....On the menu....baby back ribs, baby sized corn muffins, those little baby corn on the cobs, baby bib lettuce in the salad. No one guessed it during dinner....we thought this might be the case...so for dessert we had a cake made up and on the cake it said "we are having a baby". It was a lot of fun. You could really get even more creative with the menu if you wanted to. I had horrible "all day" sickness so getting creative with food was not on my list of things to do. Congradulations!

Tell them they need to start thinking of names for the new baby.
