So my hubby and I are celebrating our 10th year anniversary this september. He is just finishing his residency and we are moving in June....at the end of July we are expecting our 3rd child....When he was finished with med school 4 years ago we celebrated in St.Lucia and want so badly to go back to celebrate him completing this milestone...of course going in June is out of the question but we were thinking of going for our anniversary at the end of September....My question is that I feel so uncomfortable leaving my (would be 6 week old) baby behind....My family would be willing to help out...but I am not sure and would like some feedback...Should I just relax and enjoy our mini vacay or really postpone it? What would u other moms do?

Thanks for the feedback

What can I do next?

Postpone it so you can enjoy it. You won't be up to it.

Congrats on 10 years! I would postpone it. At six weeks, you may still be uncomfortable from the delivery and I think it's much to soon to leave your little one.

Now, at six months? You go girl!

At six weeks, I'd say it's too early. You're not going to be really up for a trip then anyway.

I'm all for taking getaways and have done it when our kids were babies, but not newborns.

We celebrated our 10th anniversary several months after our actual anniversary. We wanted to do an Alaskan cruise and they didn't even run in April. We waited until it made more sense, in July. It doesn't have to be a celebration on the actual day to be special.

I would postpone it, especially if you plan to breastfeed. Congrats on all of it.

Hi S.,

Could you take your newborn with you? That's what I would do.

No way would I leave a 6 week old for vacation! Will you breastfeed? Because that is far too early to interrupt the breastfeeding relationship for an extended period of time (in my opinion, probably leaving within the first 6 months of breastfeeding is a bad idea, if you wish to continue to breastfeed, although the longer you've been doing it, the less likely leaving is to create problems, as long as you continue to pump every time the baby would nurse while you're away).

As others have said, you won't enjoy yourself at that stage. Personally, I simply cannot imagine leaving a tiny newborn for vacation -- I'd want the child to be over 6 mos at the least, preferably closer to a year. But I am also not the type who feels the need to celebrate something "on time". I have celebrated all sorts of occasions months or even a year late... I want to celebrate an achievement or milestone, but the actual date is usually pretty arbitrary. So if another time is better, that's when I would do it.

I agree with the other mom's. Wait a few months till you are recuperated from having the baby. Don't worry about leaving the baby when you go. It sounds like you are confident your family will be able to take care of the baby and other kids. So now it's time to think of yourself. You want to be able to really enjoy your trip. Who knows, it might be a while before you can do it again! LOL

BOOK it at 6weeks as the celebration.

Then it becomes a celebration for both of you.

I would postpone it. You would probably have to book your flights and make reservations before your baby is even born. What if there are complications? YOU may not feel up for travel by 6 weeks...a beach vacation at that! Our 10 year was last June. We always said we'd take a big vacation for our 10th, but my husband was deployed. This year (our 11th) our son is having open heart surgery and next year (our 12th) we are moving. So, we'll squeeze in a vacation eventually. I would suggest a night or weekend get-a-way for your anniversary and then plan a trip for later!
