American Girl Doll- More Affordable Option?

Is there somewhere that sells more affordable 18 inch dolls that would display well?
I am not worried about wear and tear because this doll would only be used for
displaying clothes, and I don't want to use my daughters AG doll.
Thanks!

Santa brought several 18" dolls from Target for my dd - they are similar in some ways to AG (diff hair / eye color options, stories / interests that some have). Clothes are s'posed to be interchange-able btwn AG and these.

Also saw similar sized dolls in the Michaels craft stores and online at Walmart and ToysRUs.

There is a doll store in McKinney, I believe it is called Doll Haven, that sells the original maker of American Girl dolls. The dolls are considerably
less, great quality.

There is a new line of 18' dolls from Madame Alexander called Mia Bella. I know they are available at Toys R Us. They are usually 29.95, but I got mine on sale for 19.99 right b4 Christmas. They are really pretty and got great reviews. Many said they liked them better than American Girls, bcs. they don't have buck teeth like many AG dolls do. I got one for my 4 year old and she is thrilled.

Target, Toys R Us & Avon all have "exclusive" versions of the new Madame Alexander "Mia Bella" line of 18" dolls with precious faces, that cover the spectrum of hair/eye/skin color combinations, all for less than $30. The "Our Generation" dolls by Battat available from Target at a similar price-point, I do not recommend. Their hair cannot be brushed, and while their arms and legs can be bent, it makes the dolls look rather grotesque (the hollow appendages have a wire in the middle, so rather than looking like a bent knee, it looks like you bent a hollow leg in half). Good luck to you!

You can buy used AG dolls from Craigslist. I sold a bunch that way.

I know of 3 stores that have AG knock-offs. I don't know the price though. Target has My Generation, JCP.com has the Middleton doll and Toys R Us has Madame Alexander.

Michaels the craft store has 18" dolls that fit the AG clothing. You could use their 40% off coupon from the Sunday paper and get it pretty cheap!
