Just curious if these dolls are worth the money? My daughter's 4th B-Day is coming up and I'm debating on getting her one. Out of my three girls she plays mommy/baby the most, so I think she will get use out of it.

I have never had one but I just can't imagine spending that much for a doll. Especially since my daughters favorite thing to do with them now is bash them together.

We have bitty baby. My daughter loves her, but she also loves her other baby dolls just as much. I think she just likes the accessories she came with. Well, correction, she didnt come with anything, thats whole other fortune. I wouldnt have spent the money on it, but Ma Ma spoils her. :)

My SD has a bitty baby she played with often and is still in good shape. My aunt also gave my daughter a MyTwinn baby that has held up well. I agree to find clothes elsewhere.

I got GREAT Ken clothes from here in the past.

I had the American girl dolls when I was younger and that was over 13 years ago and she is still in great condition. I believe the dolls are worth it, hope that helps.

I was considering some as Christmas gifts and found out yesterday that they are made in China. So many of the toys available today are and while these seem to be of good quality from what I hear, for the money I've decided to pass.

YES! My daughter - now 16 - still has hers. It looks as good as the day she got it. I've asked if I can sell Bitty or give her away and the answer is always No.

I got both my daughters bitty babies and neither of them played with them for more than a year. I don't know if it is because I waited too long to get it for them, they were around four as well, or that these dolls are just that boring.

One problem I had was they would have continued to play with them if I spent around a hundred a month on accessories.

Now their American Girl dolls they played with for a long time. My older daughter actually handed hers down to the younger.

grandma bought my duaghter the bitty baby.. over 200 for the baby plus accessories.. not worth it.. it is a nice doll.. very heavy.. when the doll is dropped it makes a loud thud..

my duaghter doesnt like the doll any more than a 10 doll from walmart.

What a crazy coincidence, my daughter just received Bitty Baby twins as a gift. They appear to be really well made, and the eyes are sleepy/close when you lie them down. They feel sturdy and their hair looks nice. Their arms/legs and faces are more nicely molded/lifelike than cheap dollies. Their torsos are like a stuffed fabric, all flesh color. The clothes are really nice, well made, lots of detail. They appear to be very high quality dolls that will last a long time.

If your daughter really likes dressing dolls, I might check if there are cheaper, knockoff brand clothes, b/c I bet the clothes made for them are expensive, too.

We don't have one but my daughter has played with them at the store and she absolutely adores them! But, I agree with Molly that the allure for her seemed to come from the accessories...they are way cool! There is a miniature everything and they are totally adorable and functional and fabulous! I considered buying them too just for the perks! You should take her to the store since you're so close and see what she gravitates to more and then make a decision. It's just as easy to put a Fisher Price doll inside a $100 crib and if you're thinking of spending the money on the dolls it might be more worth it to just get the extras.

Also, I would like to say, you can find lots of cute and less expensive clothing for them at craft fairs and Festival type flea markets - many ladies that like to sew make the clothing for the American Girl sized dolls. There are also lots of free patterns online for the clothing, if you happen to like to sew.

Watch ebay and craigslist - sometimes you luck into the old ones!
(remember, tho, that if they are in great shape, they will be $$$ by some sellers - shop around a while!)

My daughter is 3 and loves the Our Generation dolls. They are like AG dolls but much cheaper. My daughter has played with hers so much I just ordered her another one for her 4th birthday.

When my daughter was 3-going-on-4, she really liked her baby dolls too. She especially liked the stroller--and always busted out the sit when she decided it was something she should sit in also. I got her the bath-tub baby that she could play with in the tub (along with a set of plastic cooking pots and a plastic tea set)... and every 6 months or so, I threw out the bath baby (when she was at school) and replaced it with a new one. And you can do that when you get the $15 baby doll from Target or Babies R Us. There was also a baby doll (regular cloth body) that she had a nighttime potty accident in bed with... Yep, threw that one out and replaced with a new one--because trying to sanitize and get the smell of urine out of a toy is not worth my time... Some of her babies, regardless of quality, got dropped and would get a permanent mark/scratch on their face. A few times we got lucky and found a baby that she had left at the playground...

My point is, for the amount of money the American Girl babies cost, Oy! You are stuck with that one doll. You can't easily replace it if it gets dirty, worn, etc. I would go for other dolls, because at her age the American Girl brand is not as important as the baby doll itself. The $15 baby will make her just as happy.
