American Doll Look Alike?

Anyone know of a doll that is similar to the American Doll? My daughter isn't very responsible with her things and I am pretty sure she wouldn't have any appreciation for one if we were to get her one. Honestly I am pretty sure she wouldn't know the difference anyway. I really don't want to spend $100 on a doll when I know it will be left lying around..

What can I do next?

I buy my granddaughters Madame Alexander dolls because their hair is MUCH nicer than the Springfield dolls you get at Michael's or Joann's. The Springfield brand hair gets very "bushy" and matts up.
One thing you will need to buy is a wig brush to keep the hair looking nice. One that has metal bristles not plastic. I buy them from Sally's Beauty or on ebay.

Target... Our Generation dolls. They also have some dolls called "All Around the World Dolls"? I think that's the name. A part of the proceeds go for supporting girls in the country the doll is based on. They are really pretty with a good cause and story.
Good luck!

Our Generation Dolls are on sale at Target right now. Hurry or they will all be gone. I think they were listed at 24.00.

As others said, the Our Generation dolls at Target are similar. They come with stories and accessories similar to the American Girls. I've heard the quality definitely isn't as good as a true American Girl, but for the price, it might be good for a girl who isn't ready for an expensive doll. My store recently had plenty in stock.

We have two Madame Alexander dolls that are unbelievably close in appearance to the American dolls and less than half the price. Target has a My Generation doll that isn't quite as close but is still really good as well. Both dolls seem to be quite well made.

Our Generation, from Target -- it's made by Battat and a number of stores now market the same Battat dolls under their own names. I think Walmart has them, as does Meijer (local in Ohio). My daughter has two Our Generation dolls and loves them. She is getting an American girl this year because she's been asking for one and has waited a long time and is old enough to take care of one. But we started her with OG for the same reason as you - not yet responsible enough.

ETA: My Twinn dolls are just as expensive as AG (and creepy).

When my daughter asked for an American Girl Doll, there was no way we were going to spend $100+ on a doll. Sorry, but no.

We went and bought her a Next Generation doll at Target. She loves it! She's played and played and played with it. Of course, she still occasionally asks for/says she still wants an American Girl Doll, but I think that has more to do with societal and peer pressure (all her friends have an AGD; some friends have more than one!) than an actual wanting of one.

Her cousin also wanted an AGD; her parents went out and bought her a Target Next Generation doll as well. She loves her doll just the same as if it were a AGD.

We just told our daughter we weren't into all that consumerism and buying, buying, buying just to buy. And that we didn't have a money tree in the backyard! ;)

The Next Generation doll would be a good investment. And they have really cute clothes for them.

Toys r us, michaels crafts, target all have the dolls that look just like the american girl dolls. toys r us and target also have outfits that fit them. we bought our granddaughter one a couple years ago. her mom got her a real american girl doll the next year and she got another one of the "fakes" she plays with all of them the same.

Toys R Us has some. They are as customizable as AG but I think they are called "My Scene". Sams Club has a few, again, not as customizable...think they are called "Be My Baby". My my case, although not customizable, they would work great for my daughter.

They sell or sold dolls of a similar size at Target, and Michael's. We got SD one several years ago for the same reasons. SD has since passed all the dolls down and I think they're all in about the same shape (she had 2 AG girl dolls, too).

http://www.dollclothessuperstore.com/ sells inexpensive clothing for them, as does Target, Michael's, etc.
