Am I the Only One Whose Kid Has Stopped Sleeping as Much?

My 15 month old does not sleep as long now that the days are getting longer. He goes down at 8, but doesn't go to sleep till about 830-9 and wakes up happy as a clam at 6AM! He's always been a rock star sleeper and consistently would sleep 12-13 hours a night plus a nap.

Don't really need advice just want to know if I'm not alone. Anyone else's young kids screwed up from the lengthening days?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

For those who asked, he went down to one nap completely a day about a month ago. I tried to put him down earlier at night but he still just stays up for till 830-9 so I just gave up on that. He is DEFINITELY going through a growth spurt though. I can't keep myself stocked with enough food and milk! lol

I know you said no advice, but I just thought, coming from a momma with nonsleep feduppedness, he is probably telling you he is done with his morning nap. Does he still take two a day? This is about the average age to give up one of the two naps. If he gave it up recently, then he may be telling you he needs to go down earlier in the evening. Weissbluth has a great book on it (which has helped me sometimes and sometimes not, hence the chronic feduppedness) called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child.

BUT, I mean MUCH earlier! Like between 6 and 6:30. I know that sounds obscene, but if you can make it work, he may go down for you. My 5 y.o. DS gave up naps ALTOGETHER when he was 21 months old. So I countered his challenge by putting his bottom to bed every night at 6 pm. And he took right to it. He would sleep for 13 hours straight through and that's how we got that allotment for him. But if I waited until anything past 6:30, he just didn't go down at all. Too tired...

And I second, third, and fourth the blackout curtains!

Good luck! I'm with ya sister!

I put blackout curtains in my daughter's room when that happened. Kept the sun from keeping/waking her up.

My son and daughter! My son used to sleep around 14 hours a night his first summer when he was 8 months old and around june he just got up earlier and earlier. My 3 year old does the same thing now! During the winter they would sleep in until 730, the last 3 mornings my daughter has come in at 430 ready to play. We have blankets on thier windows, taken away the night lights put them down later all to no avail! 630 is as late as they will sleep in!

I used to dread summers because it meant LONG DAYS!

My kids had white noise and blackout shades and curtains- all to no avail.

I would put them to bed at 8:00 pm and, like clock-work, they would be ready to start their day as soon as the birds started chirping.

Now that they are getting older, they know when they are tired and they only get up when they are fully rested. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there!

15 months old is a growth-spurt time. Many developmental changes and sleep phases and tweaks.

He seems to sleep fine.
But, does he nap? Still?
At night, if he falls asleep at say 9:00pm, and wakes at 6:00am, then he is only getting 9 hours of sleep.
At this age, they need more. 12 hours.

Sleep is never static in a baby or child. There are age changes and developmental changes etc.
A baby, versus a Toddler, versus an older child, versus a Teen, versus a college kid, versus an Adult, versus an Elderly person... they never sleep the same way or the same amount of time as they did when they were a baby.
