Am I the Only One Who Has Problems with Medicaid?????

i took my daughter for her ten month check up to the doctor she has been seeing since she has been born last year ( the doctor was listed as her doctor on all of the paper work). while we were waiting to go back in the room, the receptionist called me back up to the window. she told me that my daughter's medicaid card wouldn't go through!!!!! her card had another clinic close to where we live listed as her caregiver and boy was i mad!!!! she gave me an 800 number to call when i got home to get it all settled.

when i got home, i called that number just to find out that i couldn't get her card changed back over to the clinic where we go ( both my hubby and i went there when we were younger). i screamed and cussed the lady out because she kept telling me that since i didn't call before january 31st of this year that i was stuck with the doctor they had put on there. i asked her if i could speak to her supervisor, she said that she was gone already and that i can call back on monday morning to talk to her. she also kept saying that they sent out letters but i told her that we never got a letter so that it wasn't my fault or the doctor's office where we go to for not telling us because they didn't know either.

i called the doctor's office that i don't feel comfortable taking my kids to just to get a referral for their doctor (who has been my husband's doctor all of his life so thats why i feel comfortable with him looking at my kids) so i wouldn't have to pay for her check up. i am going to call monday to talk to the supervisor about this and if i don't get it changed, i might just have to take them to court because i never got a letter and it was a mistake on their part unless it got lost in the mail (like most of my mail does) but all i know is i never got the letter and my husband said we didn't get it either because he's the one who checkes the mail.

any suggestions on what i should do???????

if you can't say anything nice instead of hurtful things, then please do not respond to my request!!!!! thank you to those who stood up for me.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

i got a call from the supervisor about ten minutes ago and he was very nice and understanding about my situation. he told me that since my oldest has clinch valley physicians listed on his card, then hers should have it too. he is going to make a request for her to have that placed on her card considering the fact that i never got a letter and because she has been seeing him since she was born. pray that they will say yes because i really need this to go through. i will keep you updated on what happens

i just got off the phone with the supervisor and he told me that they had agreed with me. as of may 1st of this year, her medicaid card will have the clinch valley physicians on her card and to make sure this doesn't happen again, when i get a letter he told me to call and make sure that they didn't change either one of my kids care provider again. thank god this is finally over!!!!!!

ut oh.. sounds like there are 2 A. S.'s. Please don't get us mixed up.

I have no experience with medicaid, but stay on top of them!! If you can't get satisfaction, call them every day until you get what you want. they should be able to change things mid year. unfortunately the mail has gone down hill about getting everything you are supposed to.

Good Luck. I just always stay on top of everything when I want something bad enough.

first off i want to say that i couldnt let go of what that A. said so i emailed her myself and told her what i thought of her comments .. but i also have medicaid and i have changed my sons doctor and they told me i can change but that i couldnt change again for up to six months .. so you should be able to change your doctor . I dont no why it would all of a sudden change but i wish you luck . there also supposed to keep ur areginal doctor on the card unless thay are not taking medicais anymore . i wish you all the luck and dont let anyone tear you down for your life decisions. people are very ignorant sometimes and dont no what they are talking about and even though i no she will never say it but i apologize for her because i cant even imagine what i would have felt like if i would have read that remark after asking for help with people you are supposed to feel comfortable with ...

Hi, my son is 5 yrs old and he has ALLKIDS insurance. It is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield. This insurance is a lot better than Medicaid. Just about all doctors except Allkids. My son is seeing a doctor at St. Vincents. You have little or no copay and prescriptions usually cost a $1. You can go to www.adph.org/allkids or call 1-888-373-5437 for more info.

Hi A., I work in a medical billing office and trust me , with Medicaid especially you have to stay on top of them. I work mostly GA or AL medicaid I have am not sure of the differences between states, although I know there are some. You should be able to change your provider at anytime though. I know with GA it just takes a phone call. And just reading the comments I am not real sure what A. S said but from what I gather it was an ignorant comment , good luck , I hope you get everything straightened out, I know it must be frustrating, keep your head up and don't let the narrow minded ignorance get you down!!!

I am also from Jeff City...also have a 2yr old and 6mo old,in addition to a 5yr old.

Honey you are not the only one!!My problems with medicaid are endless!!My baby has been suffering alot of breathing problems and he has since he was born, and it just seemed like nobody cared as soon as they found out he has medicaid!I have fought to have him see a specialist(not til April 4th though)My baby is sick and they want to worry about what type of ins. he has?!The system is so messed up!Also the night before I had the baby,my husband(who at the time had no ins.)was involved in a horrible freak accident, and had to have extensive/expensive surgery, the hospital signed him up on medicaid then so it would cover his hospital bills, but the caseworker lost the paperwork, and filed the date wrong so they have now sent the bills(over $15,000 worth) to collection...my heart goes out to you...and I hope you find some comfort in knowing you are not the only one!!Best of luck!!!

A. S- you are way out of line! Who do you think you are judging someone?!?

A. L- I would just try to calming tell them. Eventually, after enough calls or vists to the office, someone will see it your way and you should be able to return to the doctor of your choice. I know medicad can be a pain (because they think negatively towards the receipents- which was just proved), but just hang in there! Good luck!!

It shocks me to think that anyone would pass judgement on someone without knowing that persons financial situation. I think that you should maybe go down to the medicaid office and talk to your case worker in person. This would be better than dealing with someone over the phone and you may get better help with your problem. Please do not feel ashamed for having your children on medicaid. It is one thing to Honestly need help providing for children and abusing the system. All children deserve good health care no matter what the financial status of their parents.

You may have to go back to your case worker and ask them to change the paperwork over. Good Luck in dealing with them and try to stay clam if at all possible.
