Always Tired... Any Ideas Why?
Hi moms! So I am going to try and make this short and sweet. For the past 2 weeks or so I have been extremely tired. To the point where I have to drag myself out of bed in the morning, NEED to nap with daughter in the afternoon (sometimes I think I need it more than she does! lol), and can't wait to crawl into bed at night - and again I am "ready" for bed before my daughter even is, but have to force myself to stay up. I don't think anything has changed diet wise or in my daily routine... I was never like this before - I used to always be awake before my daughter, hardly ever nap with her unless she had a rough night (like when she's sick or something), and can stay up at least 2-3 hrs past my daughter's bed time... Anyone have any ideas why I am soo drained all of a sudden? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

So What Happened?™
Thanks so much for all the great responses!!
The one thing that really stuck out to me was the people who said I may not be getting enough vitamins... I actually WAS taking a daily vitamin and ran out about 2 weeks ago and keep forgetting to buy more - which coincides with the timing of my feeling tired. It seems obvious now that a few people mentioned it, but it hadn't really occurred to me before! Plus I just had my period about a week ago too, so that probably drained my iron levels even more (I was taking a vitamin that had iron in it - so between that and my period, it had to have some effect!.) I will definitely remember to go buy some vitamins - tomorrow morning!!! If I'm not feeling better after a week or so I will for sure call my doctor and have some blood work done... and possibly a pregnancy test since so many people mentioned it - although it's unlikely since, like I mentioned, I just had my period a week ago, but still not "impossible" I guess!!
Thanks again everyone!!!
:)

You may be a little anemic. Being low in Iron can cause you to feel tired!! I was having the same tired feelings you were about a year ago, so I went to the doctor and he ordered blood work. It came back that I was low in Iron, I took one Iron pill a day for a month and the tired feelings went away.
Hope that helps...

Hi S.,
Have you taken a pregnancy test? If that come's out negative, maybe it's time for a visit to the Dr. You may just be tired.
Be blessed!

I would start by having your thyroid checked - just be careful if they want to put you on medication. If you do end up needing meds, try something natural first because once you start thyroid replacement meds it is VERY difficult to get off of them and they have some side effects. I would be happy to help you further if you want - I offer natural suggestions and specialize in women's health. You definitely cant be this run down with a little one around! :)

Before responding I read all the others. Everyone has really good responses to your issue. The two things that would help to know is your age and if you're a smoker. These two things could have an affect on how you feel. I would start with checking your iron levels, then going onto thyroid testing (make sure they test your tsh level, sometimes the doctors only check for thyroid diease and it's only a blood test). It should be at a 1.98 level or lower, when they decided to test mine it was at a 10.11. If all is well there and you're not preganut ask your doctor about sleep apnea. For years my doctors did test after test and didn't find anything really wrong, but my thyroid and I was overweight. I ended up in the hospital with unrelated issues and that's where they discovered my problem was sleep apnea. I went through a lot of life with a tired feeling (from my late 20s until I was 42). I now have more energy then I have had in years and feel like I get more done in a day. Apparently this can begin when you're very young, but because of age doctors overlook it. Also, have your oxygen level checked, mine ranges very low. Apparently I have lived with low oxygen levels and very low blood pressure from when I was a kid. I would definently start with the small stuff first and eliminate everything one at a time. Talking to your doctor is your best bet.

For many people taking care of a two year old can be an exhausting job. But since you said this was a new situation that has taken place in the last two weeks, I think you should go to the doctor. Depression, pregnancy, anemia, hormone deficiencies, thyroid problems, and a host of other more serious problems have symptoms of fatigue. Seek the advice of a professional first, to know for sure, but it could be that you just aren’t getting enough nutrition and vitamins you need for a hectic life taking care of a two year old. I hope you feel better soon.

i was thinking low iron or pregnant... if low iron, make sure you're not combining calcium-rich foods with iron rich foods. one inhibits the uptake of the other in your body. get checked!

Hi S. ~ I know there have been a lot of responses already but I'd like to put my 2 cents in for suggesting getting your thyroid checked. A few years ago I too suddenly became very fatigued and couldn't figure out why. I hadn't changed my routine, diet, etc. It was right after 911 and I had been stuck in Chicago when it happened. It was after I got home that I started to feel so tired all the time. I thought perhaps is was post traumatic stress syndrome but I also started having other symptoms that were vague so I went to see my doctor. I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease which is a thyroid disease. I was given medication to rebalance my hormones. They leveled out after about a year and I was able to quit taking the medication. Good luck to you!
