I'm looking for suggestions to treat a mild UTI (just starting) that does not involve standard antibiotics. For an adult female.

What can I do next?

Cranberry Juice!!!!! I have had a ton of these since giving birth. Also if you take a Cranberry supplement daily it helps with not getting them. AZO will help with the pain until it goes away.

In addition to the cranberry juice...wear cotton underwear (it's more breathable or something like that) and to help prevent them in the future go pee after intercourse. That helps rid any bacteria that cause a UTI.

http://www.juicingbook.com/sprouts/ this website when you look under their natural remedies line tells you to drink 64 oz a day along with 3 to 4tbls of apple cider vinegar (i would buy organic) also i mix it with some straight cranberry juice or i put the vinegar in a small glass of water and drink really fast then drink my cran and water after that. i seem to get these all the time since my second one and i like you don't want to take antibiotics anymore unless it's really bad. on this website they also have a product that helps the function of the urinary tract. hope this helps! God bless A.

C.,

When I get them, I drink lots of water and lots of cranberry juice. Be sure and get the 100% juice like Northland. If you get the cocktail, you get sugar and sugar will only make a UTI worse. I like Northland's Cranberry Grape and Mixed Berry juices. They're both good. You can also get cranberry supplement in capsule form but I haven't tried that.

Hope this helps.

Hi C.,
I used to get them constantly if not every month every other month. You can buy Azo-standard at Walmart over the counter and it is just like taking the prescribed pyridium. Unfortunately it is not an atibiotic, however it will minimize the pain until you get rid of it or you can get to a Dr. Also avoid any caffiene. Drink as much water as you can stand to flush out your system or get pregnant!!!!!hahaha just kidding. For some reason I did not get a UTI the entire time I was pregnant with all three of my girls. Hope this helps. Let my know if you need anything.

Thanks
S.

Everyone has already mentioned cranberry juice, but in addition to that I always take cranberry pills. They are over the counter and with other vitamins. My mom had to have a bladder lift do to reoccuring UTI infections. The only thing that made the infections stop (even after the lift) were cranberry pills. You can get them at ANY drug store.

Hope you get to feeling better, I know UTI's can be miserable!!!

I read this and tried it for my last one.... a) lots of water b) lots of cranberry juice (Northland has the most percentage of cranberry juice in it's juice... other's are mostly a "cocktail") c) drink an alkaseltzer. I did all 3 of these things for my last one and it never went full blown. If it does get painful get Azo Standard (over the counter) drugs that make your pee turn neon orange -- but they do take the pain away.

Good luck.

Whoa! Someone said get pregnant-no don't! You're much more prone to them! I am on permanent antibiotics and am experiencing preterm labor symptoms because I can't kick this one I have had almost since I got pregnant (and I never have them)!

Anyway, as far as non-antibiotic remedies, my firend who is a homeopath says to have Oatstraw Tea 3-4 times/day and she swears by it. You can get it at whole foods, maybe central market, or the sunflower shoppe in FTW (I am sure there are a lot more places in Dallas to get it).

Hope you can kick it early. Ditto on drink as much water as can go into your body and avoid coffee, tea, and sodas!

I agree, lots of cranberry juice and water. I have done that before as well, and it cleared up.
