Alternative for Potato Chips
Hello moms, my daughter is 8yo and loves potato chips. Sour Cream and Onion Lays are never safe in my house. She will soon be competing in gymnastics and I am trying to make her diet a bit more healthy. (She is very trim and strong.) I stopped buying chips all together but I let her choose one snack for a road trip and she chose the chips. I was wonder if anybody had any ideas for a healthier alternatives for SC & O Lays???
So What Happened?™
Thanks for all the advise ladies, I plan on buying the SC & O popcorn topping and trying that on popcorn. If she is doing the sprinkling, it may be the fun factor that works for it. I am also going to try the veggie chips and the baked chips. I do let her have chips for lunch but when she gets home from school, she will devour the whole bag if I'm not careful :) Here's looking to a bit more healthier diet :) Yea!!!

I agree with the other post about the Baked Lays. THey are much lower in fat, and taste pretty good. Otherwise, we just discovered something called Popchips. They are available at Costco, but you can probably find them other places too. They are low fat and really good!

my favorite potato chip alternatives are the root veggie crisps by Flat Earth... They might actually have a sour crem/onion flavor too. I know they have cheddar (a weakness of mine) and Sally's (I think) pita chips. I find those in the produce section near the hummus usually. The "bare naked" ones are good, as are the lightly slated. haven't tried any other flavors, but the cinnimon are always tempting. The regualar ones are SO yummy with mango salsa... mmm...

Our kids like some of the Pirate's Booty and other stuff in the natural section of the chip aisle. I can't remember who the maker is. There's lots of varieties. You're bound to find something she would like.

My kids love the Frito Lay BAKED cheetos, natural. They aren't all messy with the orange goop and they actually have some vitamins in them! They love them. Not overly salty at all either.
Also I buy baked potato chips if they really want chips or Pringles as they are less oils and fat in them.
You can get so many varieties of chips in the chip aisle that are a better alternative, baked, organic, even my kids LOVE those veggie chips, where it is actually veggies in them! There is a wide variety in the chip section, take her with you and tell her to only pick natural or baked ones.
Try the veggie chips, they are great!

Almonds are a great way to satisfy a craving. I have even used them to curb the chocolate desire. I've never really looked at the labels to make certain, but I think that Flat Earth Chips and Sunchips might be healthier. My kids love them when I buy them. I believe both of them ae bked not fried. And the Flat Earth chips are made out of better ingredients, I think. Anyway, it might be worth checking out.

I fshe is only getting them on the occasion that you all are taking a road trip, I don't see the harm in a small bag. Just keep them out of the house. Veggie Fries from Whole Foods are good and crunchy. I don't think they come in SC & O though.

Pretzels are a great alternative! My daughter loves the butter flavor twists and the other shape is a square that looks like a grid. Anyway, they provide that "chip" like crunch, but are WAY less fat and better for you! There are pretzel rods, twists, nuggets, and traditional pretzel shapes - have your daughter pick out the one she wants!
