I would consult your child's pediatrician, but I was allowed to take the Tylenol allergy medicines during the breastfeeding of my baby a few years back.

Have you tried acupuncture - I've done it for allergies in the past and it worked. Dr. Laura Weeshoff at www.lifesculpting.biz does acupuncture.

YOu can take Claritin. You can even take it when you are pregnant.

Not sure how comfortable you are with this but my doc said I could take Claritin throughout my pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Have you heard of Vemma? It is an acronym for Vitamins, Essential Minerals, Mangosteen and Aloe Vera. It is the most complete liquid vitamin out there. My friend who has terrible allergies has found amazing relief from all the antioxidants and xanthones in the mangosteen fruit. Have your doctor check out the ingredients in it. I have suffered from allergies for years and my kids have also. We tried allergy shots for years and they didn't work. Then I heard about allergy drops that you drop under your tongue instead of getting a shot. My family has been going to Dr. Agren at Family Allergy Clinic in Mesa for the past couple of years and it has made a huge improvement!!
I would spend at least three days in bed unable to open my eyes every spring!
Now my allergies only flare up a couple of times a year and
I can just take over the counter medicine for them.
I used to get a sinus infection every other month and bronchitus several times a year!
My kids do take claritin, but it doesn't work for me. I used to take Allegra D, but now that my allergies only flare up once in a while I just take Tylenol Allergy & Sinus.

For my allergies I went to a site called Healthmarvels.com and got the foot pads. I am wearing at night to get all the toxins out of me . They have taken care of my allergies which had been bad. Took about 3 weeks before they started working. I bought the silver pads . You might contact them and ask about being safe for the baby. Its worked for me and I have NO allergies now. Also works for other things. V.

I have actually took allegra or its generic while breastfeeding all my children. 3 out of four of my little ones also had allergies so it worked for both of us. Talk to your doctor they can suggest other things.

I feel fro you, my doctor told be iI could take Benadryl, but made me very drowsy and so she said Claritin, and it seemed to work well. I have also heard about being able t take a shot! And for the itchy eyes try some baucsh and Lombe allersy eye drops.

take that and use Visine allergy releif too

When I was breastfeeding I was told by the pharmacist that there really wasn't anything that route that was truly considered safe. He said that if I HAD to, I would take Claritin, but only if it would be quite a while before nursing again. I would follow some of the recommendations here...or consider consulting with a naturopath. Chances are your pediatrician won't be too versed in these alternative treatments.

Often eating some of the local honey will help with plant allergies.

Benadryl is safe. Other than that, I would check w/your doctor.

Fenugreek can actually be an allergan. It gave both my baby and me upset tummies.

There is a GREAT class you should take TOMORROW. It's called Herbs for Kids and when I took the class, we discussed allergies A LOT. The teacher has lots of suggestions, all safe for babies, kids, nursing moms and pregnant moms. The teacher suffered from allergies for years, herself.

I'm an RN and have inhalant alleries as well. I also take Nettles(capsules with a liquid inside that tastes like licorice, by Geia, (not the right spelling), from New Frontiers.) I have been going to an accupunturist who is also a Dr of Oriental Medicine. Steve uses many herbs and has a vast knowledge about them. He has me use a water-based nasal spray and some tablets of Chinese herbs. Both have worked very well for me. Juniper is one of my problems too as well as pine. Steve's # is ###-###-####.
I commend you for breast-feeding! My Mom was way ahead of her time when she breast-fed me in 1948 when I was born. I inturn nursed my daughter, who is almost 30 now and has a nursing 31/2 yr old son. I'm still an active LLL member.

I didn't have any allergies till my first pregnancy and since then I have suffered from them regularly in the summers but my naturopath told me to take Quercetin. It is an antioxidant and it is safe while you are breastfeeding and pregnant. She recommended that I take 200mg 3xday before meals. You can find it at healthfood stores just make sure it is just Quercetin(sometimes places will combine it with vits and other herbs). Good Luck!

There is a very helpful book (that is considered the "Bible" for breastfeeding moms) that is called "Medication and Mother's Milk," by Dr. Thomas Hale. He lists everything that you can take while breastfeeding, and he tells you the level risk it may present, the drug's half-life, etc.

visine A (antihistamine) works great for itchy eyes. it stings for a minute, but it's worth it. i was told it was fine to take, just like everything else though, keep drinking water so you produce enough milk.

a neti pot works awesome too! I used it while prego and nursing now too. It doesn't help with itchy eyes though. I just got mine at a health store. Check this link:

Some herbalists make an eye wash from goldenseal, bayberry, eyebright, OR red raspberry leaf for eye allergies.

Have you tried allergy eye drops. They work great. I have had really itchy eyes from spring allergies and been breastfeeding. The eye drops are perfect! Good luck!
