Allergic to Pets

Hi all,

I have an 8 month old son and i think he may possibly be allergic to dogs. Does anyone know if there is a way to test for this at his young age. Thanks!

What can I do next?

The only way to really be sure, is to remove the animal for a while, and see if his symptoms get better. Medicine such as Claritan and Benadryl may help with this. He may also be allergic to a mold in the home, that you don't even realize is there. Geisinger dermatology does allergy testing with patches on the back, and they monitor you for a week. They can tell you exactly what your allergent is. I hope this helps!

We have a test kit at my job that is more accurate than the scratch test (which is really uncomfortable and I doubt they'd probably won't want to do it on an 8 month old). I think it may be a hair test or saliva.. but I have to ask. The test cost about $300. If you want more infor, I can ask for you. Just let me know.

Hi,

I have many allergies myself and I was tested by an Allergist. There was a combination of blood test and skin test. The best thing to do is take note of what his reaction to dogs seems to be and what things happen to trigger these reactions. That way when you go to your pediatritian you are prepared and he will hopefully give you a referral. I hope this was helpful :-)

Hello there. I have a daughter, now 17 months old, who is allergic to eggs and tree nuts. We had her tested over a year ago. I took her to an pediatric allergist who did blood work and scratch test. They can test for animals too.

yes there is. You need to make an apt with an allergist. My girlfriend has a 6 month old and he was just tested and he is allergic to pets they had to get rid of all their animals and then in another 6-9 months he has to go back and be retested for other allergens.
