Allegra Vs. Zyrtec

Has anyone tried both Allegra & Zyrtec? I am wondering if you noticed a difference. I was taking Zyrtec every morning for the last 3 weeks and my itchy throat and runny nose completely stopped. I tried Allegra yesterday ( because it is non drowsy ) and I had the itchy throat all night and still today. I took another one today to give it a a couple days but I think my body likes the Zyrtec better. That's $23 wasted. Then I see it on sale for $17 somewhere else today. All I care about is getting rid of this itch. I will be back on the Zyrtec tomorrow.

What can I do next?

You can take the Zyrtec before you go to bed at night to help with any drowsiness. That is when the doctor suggested my son take it. He has been taking it for months and hasn't had any issues with drowsiness. He recently switched to Allegra for a month (Dr. says over time you can get "used" to whatever you are taking and it can be helpful to switch to something else for a few weeks), but he didn't seem to have as good of control of his symptoms while he was on it. He's been back on Zyrtec for the past 3 or 4 days and his symptoms are improving again. (He doesn't get hives or itching, but sinus drainage, stuffiness, and sneezing).

for me, neither of those work. I take reactine, once every 24 hours. If I miss a dose, I start itching and turn into one big hive. I use a generic version, its about half price. Ive been on this 18 years, it used to be prescription. But everyone is different, neither of the two drugs you mentioned did ANYTHING to stop my allergies.

If zyrtec makes you drowsy then you should take it at night especially if it works well for you.

Personally, I like Allegra better. But whatever works for you us what you should stick with! Try Costco or Sams, etc. for bulk prices!

I've found what works well one season isn't best the next. Sometimes you do have to waste the money and go through the trial and error. Zyrtec tends to work best for me, but last year, Claritin was the only thing that worked (and that almost never works for me).

My daughter takes Allegra, Zyrtec does to her what Allegra does to you. I think it might be the different concotions.
Or it may be that it takes a week to start really working in your system.
My son actually takes a different one, Singulair.

I took Zyrtec and it stopped the post nasal drip and that was about it, Allegra did absolutely nothing. If you feel your allergies are really bad, ask your doctor about Singulair, it works wonders for me.

My husband swears by Allegra D (the kind behind the counter), but I think everyone is different.
