My son is only two but we decorated his room in a boat theme. When you come into his room, there is a sign that says "Captain's Quarters". He has a model boat on his dresser and hanging boat for his wall. And we found stencil at Joann's ETC that is boats. Very cute. And his comforter is the boat theme as well. I liked it because it was diffent from just sports or cars. But he is getting older and I can start to see that he is more into cars and sports. So we'll probably will be changing soon.

I dunno how much you like theme rooms but i did my boys in their favorite things. My oldest is 10 and the top part of his wall is white and the bottom is red and there's a ga bulldogs border going around the middle where the 2 colors meet. My middle son is 6 and he likes cars so we painted his room dark blue and put hot wheels border up at the top. My youngest just has a pretty light blue in his room he's only 2 and we're waiting to see what he likes before we decorate. Hope this helps good luck!!

Everyone has such great ideas! I have a 2 yr old boy. We painted his room a deep blue up to chair rail height and then put a border around the middle of the wall. My son loves automobiles, and Thomas the Train. So its very boyish with blue checkered curtains. You don't have to spend a lot of money to make a statement in their room. I kept his bedding very simple. I got a quilt set at Target so that it'll grow with him not matter what characters he loves... we can just change the border or color of the walls! :) Hope this helps!

I would check out The Company Store. They have a catalog as well as a website. They have adorable stuff for kids rooms...everything from bedding to shelving and furnutire and accessories. My stepsons room is done in the pirate style The sheest and coordinating quilt are fun! I even found treasure chest toy boxes at ikea.

Hi, I have two boys and I did their room in spiderman. I put up the spiderman wall border and wall stickers and they love it. Their beds and curtains are all spiderman. I have another one that loves scooby doo and I did the same thing in her room with the borders and stickers, it totally dresses up their rooms, I think I like it as much as they do. Have fun.

We are in the process of doing the very same thing. My boys are 10,8 and 4. My 10 year old has his own room and has chosen a boader with flames on it and we plan to paint his room a lighter shade of orange. He wants to accent with different shades of orange..... Now my other 2 boys are really into the movie CARS. We painted there room blue put up a boarder and the decals all over the walls. I did the light covers and everthing with left over wall paper. They also have the bed set,throw pillows and everything..(they got from Santa)...
I recently also did there bathroom..they really like Mustangs so I painted there really pretty flowered papered bathroom white to off set the dark walnut cabinet and a set of louver door red that hid the water tank then I put up a mustang car boarder and posters of cars Yes this is there bathroom and I happened across some fabric at walmart and made them some curtains and every body just loves there bathroom. Since I rent and cant change the color of my walls I just decorate his room with what he likes at the moment. It was sponge bob for awhile. He had the bean chair, a large plush SB..Sb clock and sheets. Now it changed to Cars. With the older one u can go with what he likes and buy matching accessories b/c its not likely to change as fast as the other 2. I would recommend just choosing bright colors and buy pillows and other things they like that match the room. But not to go all out with the character they like b/c my oldest is 3 and he likes a wide range of things and its hard to keep his room changing with his moods and likes.

I am working on my two grandsons bedroom right now. Since they love "Choppers" I bought deep blue fabric with motorcycles and several other colors mingled in, like deep yellow and orange flames and made their curtains. Then I bought a perfect matching deep orangey solid fabric and made pillows for their beds. I then bought midnight blue comforters for their beds. Next I intend to paint dark blue below the chair rail and lighter shade of blue above the chair rail. I want to get them a new ceiling fan and the room will be set. They also have a couple of small "chopper" pictures on the wall, and a couple of model "choppers" on their chest of drawers. Their room is looking so good, and believe it or not, doesn't look real "matchy-matchy" like a lot of rooms do. I hate wall paper, borders, and stencils. I believe in mastering my own design and using my imagination. The boys are three and five, so they can grow with the room. They love it. I did the jungle theme in the boys playroom. You wouldn't believe it, but I hand sketched everything then painted two walls. I did the room four years ago, and am tired of looking at it. But it was a fun experience for me just to see if I could do it. If you have ever seen Jungle Book, I copied some of the characters, like the little boy sitting on the elephant, and the little girl from India, and a black panther, parakeet in a tree, the bear against a tree, toucans, etc. It was fun at the time and all of my grandchildren have enjoyed it, but I am ready to prime over it and go back to normal walls.

I suggest denim comforters and bright sheets (any of the primary colors,red, green, blue.) I have girls and have chosen pastels as my base. My oldest likes barbie and dora, so she had those pillows. If your boys are into characters just get them the throw pillows in their favorite characters. Buying complete character bedding is a waste of money because kid's favorites change so frequently. You can also add color and somewhere to sit by adding bean bags in demin or their favorite color. It is always more economical to change small accessories than it is to start from scratch everytime. I say the denim because it can grow with the children. By using the primary colors, you can create a colored theme on the walls, windows and any other furniture you add to the room.

My 5 year old recently went from a 'construction' theme to a 'Nascar' theme. He loves cars and trucks and things like that. There are so many 'themes' out there if your boys are interested. Look around on the internet; Google is a great search engine for this. I was able to find those wall clings (they aren't permanent and they are reusable) in both the construction and Nascar themes and our son loves them. Only thing I would have you watch out for is that many of the theme-related bedding - sheets, pillow cases and comforters - are scratchy and rough no matter how many times you wash them. I think it has to do something with the heavy dye they put on them. If your children are prone to allergies this might bother them too. I would suggest you don't buy any of this type of bedding - unless it is perhaps a theme-related fleece throw (my son has two of these). You can get good, soft bedding in the appropriate colors that will work with whatever theme you choose. Also, some children's furniture is outrageously expensive; you probably know that from have nursery furniture. When we were ready to move our son to 'older kid' furniture we purchased an unfinished dresser and two unfinished bookcases from Wood You furniture and stained them to match the twin bed a relative had given us for our son. Worked out really well and we were able to get well-contructed furniture for less than what we would have paid for finished 'chidren's' furniture. Watch out for the staining though... wear a mask and do it in a well-ventilated area. Good luck. C.

I did my sons (which is three)room in a dark brown with cream trim and decorated with John Deere stick ons from www.Birthdayexpress.com That way if he grows out of it the expense was minimal and it can be changed easily. I will only have to change his bedding and the stick ons because the curtains are a solid color that can be worked with. Well with the exception of his bathroom because it is decked out in John Deere...haha! I used to have it with Winnie the Pooh Stick ons. I think Thomas the Train and "Race Cars" (the new animated movie)(and they can be found almost anywhere) are good ones for the Three year old too. Birthday Express has the stick ons for that too. For the Eight year old have him tell you what he wants and go on eBay and see if you can't find it at a great price. The one year old you might want to do something simple with just paint colors because once he gets older you might find he likes a certain character and want to change it. For all of them you may just want to accent which ever you choose with a character lamp or accessories. GOOD LUCK! I would love to hear how they turn out! Hi A.. I don't have any boys(3 girls) but we do have a playroom that is done in blue. 2 walls are bright blue and 2 walls are a lighter blue. The room is done in Nemo/sea decor. It's really cute, I was so proud of myself LOL! Get in touch if you want pics:)

i did both of my kids room. my son(age 3) has a thomas themed room. there is a mural on one wall and the other walls are different. one is red with a painted chalkboard, one is yellow, and the other blue. I sewed my own curtains and bedspread b/c it was cheaper. The only things i will need to change when he grows out of it will be the curtains, bedspread and mural wall. The colors look great together. we even got a multi colored ceiling fan. my daughters(age 8 months) room is mostly pink with cranberry, sage, and pink stripes below a chair rail. We bought the infant bedding and used colors in it. We even put up the matching border above the chair rail. when she gets older all we will have to do is remove the border and repaint if necessary. if you would like some pics or ideas feel free to email me at ____@____.com

I painted my 3yo son's room a khaki color .Then I painted a Safari mural on one wall that looks like tent flaps have been tied back to reveal the African Savannah "outside of his tent". There are giraffes and an elephant next to a watering hole. It is still in progress but I'm having great fun painting it. I keep thinking I'd love to turn this into a business....what fun!

Across the street from the Mall of Georgia, there is a Dollor Store, call Deals (I think) and they have these stickers that stick to the walls. But you can peel them off if you don't want them anymore. I used them on my girls room and I love them. I would reccomend painting their rooms (if you can) and then using the stickers. They look really good and it takes no tiume at all. Good Luck.

We purchased and new (older) home and had to remodel some rooms. We started with our sons room. It was HORRIBLE but has beautiful hardwood floors. My dad and I put up beadboard with new chair rails and baseboards, painted the beadboard and trip pieces white and then painted the top a really nice light blue color. I got a patchwork quilt from Pottery Barn Kids that has the primary colors in it. I think it is called the "Kasey" style. I bought some inexpensive, unpainted shelves in various sizes and painted them red. I have some of my father's old toys and books up on those shelves to display and out of little hands reach. I have accented his room with UGA items, some farm type things (he loves tractors and animals) with some pictures and items I've picked up at thrift stores. It's really cute. It is something he can grow with. I can change the bedding as he gets older or add more "grown up" elements as he likes. I would suggest picking out bedding first, Wal-Mart, Target, Overstock.com and Amazon.com have some nice really nice discounts. Then, pick the wall color. Nothing too bold or bright. Then, add in elements that your boys like, i.e. framed prints, personalized coatracks to hang on the walls, etc. Email me if I can be of any help. I am in the middle of remodeling our kitchen now. We bought this house back in August to remodel and sell. It's hard work, but SO much cheaper to do ourselves. We are not "handy" people, so most things we do are pretty simple. Go w/ a car/truck theme - my friend decorated her 4 yr old room w/ blue walls and found a border w/ cars, trucks, etc on it with primary colors (red, green, blue, yellow...). Then she accessorized w/ trucks and cars toys, lights, etc.
Big Lots has primary kids furniture (table, rolling storage cubes, etc) that are inexpensive...

I wanted to do a theme in my sons room but I didn't want it to be overpowering so I put up a border in the middle of the wall and took colors out of it to match. I did a Winnie The Pooh border and painted the top half of the wall sky blue and the bottom half a light green to match the border. I think if you go onto homedepot.com you can play with colors online and experiment with the different shades. Boy themes are cars, trucks, sports, jungle, animals etc...
