I am on anti-depressants, still trying to find the one that works for me. Just switched from one that made me want to sleep all day to Lexapro. I have only been taking the new one for 4 days so I know things may change but I hate the feeling of wanting to be in bed all day, I feel like I am sleeping my life away. Has anyone experianced this and is there anything to make this better that you have tried?

Thanks

What can I do next?

The only time I felt like that was before I was diagnosed hypothyroid.
I was cold and tired all the time.
I was on Prozac for 6 months.
It didn't make me sleepy but it helped me sleep better since my mind wasn't racing all over the place and could settle down at night.

I would give it two weeks before I switched or did anything. Are you certain it's the medication that is making you feel this way, or is it because you are depressed? Wanting to sleep all day is a big trigger in my book. You may not feel like getting out of bed, but you HAVE TO. Do you have any hobbies or things that could help get you out of the house? Perhaps you and your husband can make a get away to somewhere close by for the weekend. I hear the Colorado is quite beautiful! Good luck

I'm currently taking Zoloft and I have days like this every so often. In all honesty the only way I overcome these feelings is to force myself to get up and moving!! It's definately not easy but once I do I'm so proud of myself and am amazed at what I can get accomplished =)

My daughter used to feel like that. Of course, doctors immediately go to depression and tried all kinds of anti-depressants on her. She kept telling them that all she wanted to do was sleep and that her whole body hurt. They said the "whole body hurt" was from depression as was the desire to stay in bed. Turns out she has rheumatoid arthritis. The doctor that finally dignosed her told her that a lot of doctors mistake RA with depression.

I don't know what your symptoms are, but thought I would share her experience. It may turn out that you don't actually have depression. Doctors are too quick to prescribe anti-depressants - if they can't figure out anything else, they'll just medicate you and hope you go away.

Try taking the medication in the evening instead of a.m.

Keep in mind that depression will cause fatigue, so give the med about 14 days to work and see if you are feeling better.

try to stretch in the morning when you get up, a few yoga poses may help increase your energy - It really does.

I hope you feel better soon, I've been there

Some antidepressant medication is less sedating. I don't know where Lexapro stands on that. When I was wanting to sleep all the time my therapist switched me to Wellbrutrin because it is more energizing. I still wanted to sleep. Turned out I had an intestinal infection. Because I have IBS I was ignoring the diarrhea.

Agreed that you should give your system time to adjust before making any decisions about it. That takes anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. I have been on several and I found great success with Cymbalta. Once I plateaued on it, the doc added Seroquel and I take it at night. Seems to work for me.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I was diagnosed with severe depression many years ago. They tried all kinds of medications on me none of which worked. Finally, I discovered that depression is linked to supressed anger and irrational core belief systems. I learned to vent and release my anger (built up after a lifetime of being a doormat). I also started the journey of healing my childhood wounding and becoming aware of all the negative programming I had that contributed to my beliefs about not being good enough.

I am thrilled to say I no longer suffer from depression. I now have many tools to support me in living a very different kind of life. There are ways to cure depression. You can change your brain chemistry through other means than medications. I highly recommend that you seek out other forms of support than just medications that ultimately only help in the short term (if at all) and that have serious side effects (most of which you are never fully informed about).
