After Pregnancy... - Potterville,MI

I know this might be a lot of information but I am wondering if anyone else went through the same thing. I have a baby who is almost 6 months old. I start my period last month (I usually have 28 day cycles). The first one was extremely heavy and lasted about 5 days. I am waiting for my second one to start and it hasn't yet. I have negative pregnancy tests, no pain and no period. Anyone else have this? Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Currently I just wanted to thank everyone for their answers! I am not breastfeeding still, not on birth control and still without a period. But I am going to wait a little while longer and then take another test. I have an appt with my doctor in two weeks, so we will see what's going on then! Thank you so much!!

It's very common. The first few cycles can be anovulatory (meaning you don't ovulate). That would make them irregular. But don't bank on that for birth control. Especially common if you're breastfeeding too.

J.,

This happened after the birth both of my children. I assumed it was because I was breastfeeding but since I nursed both for the first year I don't have anything else to compare it to. :) I did have my first period 6-9 months after their births and then didn't have another for several months. They were very heavy but soon settled back to a "normal" period for me.

Good luck and hang in there!

yes normal..

I assume you are nursing.. i didnt have period for 6months after my 2nd baby. the first one or two or three are heavy..

mine got better after a while but everyone is different and some people have worse periods after hving a baby..

Are you using any sort of birth control? Your body is going under a lot of changes and believe it or not, being a mom can be stressful. I would wait another week, if you still haven't had your period, make an appointment with your OBGYN and have them do a blood pregnancy test; the blood tests detect pregnancy a lot sooner than urine tests. Good luck!

This just happened to me, too! I got my cycle 1 1/2 months ago - normally my cycles are very regular - every 28 days. I was waiting, waiting. Took a preg. test - negative. Then, just got my cycle now - 35 days after the last one. I think it's very normal to very with your cycles after having a baby.

:)

With return to fertility you can have very irregular cycles. They can be much longer or shorter than normal. Especially if you are still breastfeeding.

I didn't get mine back until 14 months PP (I was breastfeeding enough to keep it away I guess) but when it did come back it took probably 5-7 months of being irregular to get back to a regular cycle. Also, my cycle is a little different than it was pre-baby (used to be 28 days, now it's 30ish). If you think you may be pregnant, go see the doctor. It doesn't take much to do a quick test and you'll know. I know if I'm stressing about it (or anything else for that matter) it sometimes holds off another day or so and as soon as I stop worrying it shows up with in a day or so.

Basically, yes, it's normal to be irregular for a while after you get your periods back. :)

I didn't miss but I had 2 within 2 weeks of each other. The first was really light and the second was extremely heavy. Then the following month they were back to normal. Give it time.

Yes your body needs 3to6 months to get back on track. your not pregnant your body just needs to adjust and than you will go to normal
