I tried to allow a super cuts type place to cut my child's hair and the lady even said she knew how to cut hair this texture. I had to tell her to stop. You will be doing yourself and you child a favor if you go ahead and find a salon/barber that is trained, specializes and takes care of African American hair.

Unfortunately I have tried this route and found I just went through bad cuts, and realized if I really want it done right I need to go to a salon. Even when I asked and they said they knew how, it ended up being a mess and one lady I told to stop. And I only get trims! Only one girl I knew at Hair Cuttery in Village Crossing in Skokie knew how to properly trim my hair, and she stopped working there. My advice would be to find a salon.

Hi L. I take it you don't live in the urban area. Try looking in the yellow pages for hair cutteries and ask do they do ethnic hair. That what I did when we moved to the suburbs. And was suprise to see the number of one that do.

I've got a fabulous woman who works out of her home on the north side of Chicago:
